Replaced camera now getting error

I crashed my p3p and damaged the camera. I bought a camera used but was verified in good working order. I installed the new camera assembly and I received a few errors. Invalid battery, esc errors, and gimbal roll motor error. I was able to (with much difficulty) update the firmware in case that was the issue. That cleared the battery problem but now I still have the gimbal roll motor error.

I use this drone exclusively for dropping baits for fishing and really don’t need the camera as it’s always in my line of sight without any obstructions. I’ve heard of people taking the camera off and being able to fly fine. When I do this, I get the esc error and am unable to take off.

Im stumped. If I could get it to fly without the camera I’d be very happy. If the camera worked again I’d be super happy! Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome to the forum !

My questions.
1: Invalid battery, esc errors, first time you seen these?
2: Camera was verified good?
3: If the camera is not hooked up, what are those errors?
4: Camera assemble, is that everything below the rubber shocks?
5: Do you know if this is the correct assembly?

You will get help, if answer some of those questions.
They may not be from me, you need to stick with this thread.

I been here awhile. :) 👍👌

Thanks Rod!

1. The invalid battery and esc errors showed up for the first time when I installed the new camera assembly. I was able to clear these errors when I updated the firmware which led to a gimbal roll error.
2. Camera was verified in working order
3. Without the camera hooked up I get an esc error.
4. Camera assembly is everything below the rubber shocks.
5. The camera looks identical as the previously working one and labeled the same. (phantom pro)

"3. Without the camera hooked up I get an esc error."
Did you get the ESC error with no camera before you tried the replacement?
The ESC is related to prop motors only.
If I'm wrong on that statement somebody will correct me.

Doing a firmware is the last thing to try, you may have caused more issues.

Really you changing the hardware, back in the day I would have done same thing. :)👌

You might something here @msinger help.

I didn’t try flying it without the camera until I replaced it. I’m with you, I feel like the firmware messed with things. I don’t understand how they’re so finicky. Just want to fly again!

Pushed through the firmware and now the only error I’m getting is esc error. I installed the camera again, however it still doesn’t twitch upon startup

Need to ask a few questions to get caught up......

What is the color of the camera LED light? Blinks?
Does the gimbal dial on the RC control normal gimbal tilt?
In the DJI Go App, what mode is the camera in? (follow/FPV?)
Have you done a compass calibration recently?
Have you done an IMU calibration recently?

*What is the condition of the camera/gimbal ribbon cable? They are notorious for causing issues with even slight damage. **If you do feel you need to replace the gimbal/camera ribbon cable, be sure to get a genuine DJI OEM part........Not aftermarket or 3rd party. It should be part # 49, and come in an original DJI smoke colored package.

Upon startup, the camera led is constant green.

Gimbal dial doesn’t have any effect on the drone.

Camera is in follow mode

Just did compass and imu calibration with no problems.

The cable looks fine, I don’t see anything that doesn’t look right.

Now it’s showing gimbal roll error

Thanks for your help!

All sounds good except for the error code and the RC wheel not controlling camera tilt/angle. The gimbal roll motors control the camera movement, both during startup with the 'camera dance', and in flight with the RC wheel. They depend on that flat ribbon cable mentioned previously.

Does the camera work?....pics and videos, plus live feed?

If so, I think the gimbal itself (or the ribbon cable) may have issues.

The camera and video feed do work. I can make a video with the drone being stationary and it’ll save in the app. Just no control of the gimbal. I do have a spare ribbon cable, is it hard to install? Seems like a daunting task

There are a few videos on YouTube showing how to replace a ribbon cable. It is precision work, so take your time.

I would HIGHLY recommend only using a genuine DJI OEM cable, part # 49. There are many copycat third party cables out there that may look the same, but are rarely the high quality ribbon cable that DJI products require.

So research the procedure a bit before you start. If you have any other questions, just fire away. Somebody here will get back to you.

I will tackle this later today and let you know. Thank you!

Very good. Changing them out is not 'that bad'........but doing it twice due to a third party knockoff will test anyone's patience. Good luck. 👍👍
Replaced the ribbon cable, wasn’t that bad of a job. Upon startup, gimbal did the “dance”. Looked like all systems were go until I got an esc error. Restarted the aircraft and still got the error

I wonder if the previous owner maybe installed prop guards at one time, and damaged the motor windings with 'too long screws'. It happens quite often.

Have you started the drone ---spun up the motors ? (Best to do this with props OFF the bird for inside bench testing) Do all 4 motors start/idle/spin up normally?

Also, maybe an IMU calibration would help?
