will the drone motors run indoors without the satellite being found?

I have several drones paired to controllers and linked together. I was checking everything out to see if the work ok to test fly them outdoors. It is a cloudly and rainy day so I'm not sure if that affects the drone operating. I started the controller and then the drone, I heard a loud beep and the camera moved around. The light on the controller was green so I guess it is linked up. Both batterys are fully charged. I pulled the two sticks back and to the center, but the motors did not start running. What am I doing wrong?

If you don't have a manual, you should be able to find it online as PDF.

Also, mobile app will always tell you why an action was rejected.

I have a manual, read it several times. First must the dji go app on my ipad be connected to the controller for the motors to run, This is just for testing the motors
.

No.

his is just for testing the motors
ok, if neither manual nor my suggestions affected your procedure, then you can test them your way. Good luck.

EDIT:
ok I feel this wasn't really sufficient answer.. here:

During startup, Phantom drones execute a self test. This test consists of multiple steps and leads to setting status of the drone - including ability to turn on motors.

On a try to actually turn the motors on, additional checks are made, and only passing these tests lead to actually turning them on.

The manual explains arm diodes blinking schemes, which allows you to get some general status without mobile app. For detailed status, it can be queried from FC. Besides a direct USB connection, this status can also be retrieved by the mobile app - it will show you a message explaining the status.

App should let you know, but Is it possible you are in an area where the Geofencing has restricted the start of the motors?

The motors did start the first day I worked on the drones. It was a nice day but I was inside checking out the drones. I don't remember if I had the ipad connected or not. That is why I was wondering if you had to have the dji go on the ipad and have it connected to the controller for the motors to start.
This no motor start thing happened to 2 different drones and controllers yesterday.
Right now I am working downloading another dji go app to my ipad.

Sorry, I have only one kind, the Phantom 3 Pro, I have 5 of them, 2 did start up no problem. Today I found out that when I tried to set the compass it would fail. High magnet some where close, OK, so I cancel the calibration and looked through the dji go for problems. The mode on the controller was set on (1) not (2), I changed it to (2) hit apply and tried the motors again, they started no problem!!!

Keep this thread active!
You have 5 P3P birds?

Every member that I have seen post on this thread so far. 👍👍
Anyways, you got some good guys here. 👌
Skip me

I'm lost on which bird, remote and problem.
The pay here isn't very good, helping somebody out and sharing the results. That's the paycheck!

OK, I buy used P3's and see if I can get them in the air. I just started doing this. So far 3 will fly. Two will be for parts. I posted questions on this forum in an effort to find out why the motors would not start. What I found was, I cannot calibrate the compass indoors. When I want to test the controller with the drone I cancel the compass calibration, check everything on the dji go app and try to start the motors. If the motors start, great, I run them for a minute or so, moving the sticks all around and listen for the different motor sounds. Then I can take them outside and fly them, too cold right now.
When I get one to fly and take pictures I may sell it and keep buying used, crashed, or junk P3's.

I wouldn't even try to calibrate a compass in doors.
There is a way to see if the compass is correct with the app. This is only going to work outdoors.

The other thread, "Wifi and Drones"
P3P has no relation, P3S does but nothing related to WiFi signal from a router.

Looking closer at this thread.

Has the best simple suggestion for your current questions.
"The manual explains arm diodes blinking schemes, which allows you to get some general status without mobile app." 👍

Well it sounds like some of you guys don't remember when you first started out with drones. OK I may ask the wrong questions and you reply back to me on a bad day so I should just accept your razor sharp replys.
I will back out of here at this point and you guys can chew on the next newbe.
Good Bye God Bless and have a nice day.

Really, I have been here since 2015.
I lost my P2V+ $1400 July 25th 2015.

I remember the P3A, P3P induced on a live streaming view.

It must appear I and others are going after newbies (Fthat) ?

"I should just accept your razor sharp replys."
Not a clue? Just looking for some facts?

All theses members have a lot of knowledge!
I won't reply to this thread unless you do.

I will send you a PM with my email and cell number.

BTW, my grammar, spelling, typing is pretty bad.

Took me like 30 mins to make this post.

You ever heard, texting sucks. 👌

Great reply. We all have those days. You guys might not believe this but I was once a newbie. I asked questions and got great replies most of the time. Not everyone is patient but they mean well. What makes this forum great? The people on it.

I had almost forgotten about this vid haha - a P2V - no GPS - I was not even using prop guards

Absolutely correct. A ceiling fan and it would have been all over. No FPV, correct again. No wind, correct. No windows open, correct. Anything above and it would have been catastrophic.

I see the drone was blowing things off the table, and there was a live person sitting near by. Well you controlled the drone well.

Pretty crazy, right? Before the P2V, I started off learning on a cheap drone that didn't have GPS, so I did have some practice. :-D
