This may take a while to spell out, so don't fall asleep on me.
I'm trying to come up with a procedure for connecting the controller, DJI Go app, and the drone to see if they work together. ( Meaning the status lights come on and the motors operate with the control sticks.) This is done indoors with no props attached.
First, I install the iPad on the controller, next I turn the controller on. I next turn on the iPad and connect it to the controller. Next I turn on the drone and make sure it tests the gimbal and beeps. I now bring up the DJI Go app and open it. At this time I check the app to see if it connects to the drone, then for anything that needs to be corrected. I make sure it is in the correct mode (2), and make sure the compass is calibrated and that it is not in beginners mode. At this point the motors should start when I pull the controller sticks down.
Now I think I listed those actions in the correct order, if not please tell me.
I had several drones that would not spin the motors unless I walked outside and calibrated the compass. As far as the GPS I don't believe not being connected affects the start up.
After all that I wait for a nice day and take everything outside and try a few small test fly arounds.
I did find that the drones would not calibrate the compass when I had a cell phone in my pocket! I read the manual at least 3 times and missed that note.
If you can add thing I should change, please let me know, thanks.

You seem to have a good general understanding of the procedure. I've been impressed with how you are genuinely trying to learn about your drones. I suspect however that you still think you need to do compass calibrations all the time. That is not so at all.

Many years ago, I put together a tips post to help new owners get up to speed. I haven't really looked at it in several years, so I don't know if any of the links are now broken. I think much of it would be review for you now, but you may find something new and/or useful such as compass calibration info. Click here for the tips post. Good luck and cheers!

Hey, that is great information, thanks a lot. This will be good reading later tonight, again thanks. I also noticed that after I posted the last post that there are several tutorials on the DJI Go app with great info.

The order is not critical.

Your DJI drones should never need compass calibration, unless you add or remove accessories or rebuild the drone.

The GPS will take care of itself.
Just wait to see the Green Ready to Go (GPS) banner on the top of your screen.
I did find that the drones would not calibrate the compass when I had a cell phone in my pocket! I read the manual at least 3 times and missed that note.
If your drone flew normally last time you flew, there is no need to recalibrate anything.
Leave that compass alone.

Your DJI drones should never need compass calibration,
I think you meant manual calibration, meaning triggering the calibrarion process from the app by clicking in settings - that is not needed, because the drone will simply inform you through the app every time it really needs calibration.

But it's not that you never need it, sometimes after starting the drone near a metalic object / power line, or after travelling over 300 km, it will ask you for the calibration.

That's not true at all.
If you attempt to startup close to steel items and your compass warns you about it, there's no problem with your compass and recalibrating it won't ever solve the problem it;s warning you about.
The correct action in that case is to switch off, move away from the problem and start again.
I'll repeat this again.

Your DJI drones should NEVER need compass calibration, unless you add or remove accessories or rebuild the drone.

To get the facts on DJI's compass, what calibration actually does and when it might be needed, read the first post in this thread:
