It seems like every couple of flight I have to recalibrate the transmitter. I get the warning at start up. Is this normal?

Look at the firmware versions when they come up and make sure they're new versions. If they are, the yes...normal.

So if it comes up again, check and see if the version it wants you to download and install is a new version or this one.

Try and exercise the control sticks a lot while off. Some old RC plane guy told me the transmitter control pots get noise in them much like a radio dial's volume control if he doesn't exercise them over their range of movement. I notice it seems true on a couple of my radios where the volume gets scratchy and noisy, and if I crank the knobs back-and-forth a lot it helps. Don't know if its oxidation or what that causes it.
