Hi all. I just got a used phantom 3 4k and immediately crashed it. I broke most of the propeller guards so i ordered new one. After insalling them, the propellers will no longer start up. One of the them sort of moves jerkily and then sometimes goes in the opposite direction. The other three dont move at all. The lights on the drone are solid red in front and flash yellow in back until the "aircraft warming up" notification goes away in the app. Then the rear lights are two flashes of green every second or so. The app seems to think everything is good to go but when i start up the props i get the mentioned one prop weirdly moving and reversing wiht all others staying still. I know nothing about this thing but hoping you guys can help me figure it out.

Are you sure you used the correct length screws? This is a common problem when installing the screws and they protrude into the motor windings.

Dude! Very well could be it as I used the screws that came with the new guards. Will go back and try the originals. Thanks so much and will let you know once I test

You'll likely have to replace all of the damaged motors too.

Ouch!!, I soon as I seen the title.

Yes the longer screws damage the motors.

Anyways.

So i need 2 ccw and 2 cw, right? They are Im assuming so since the thread is different even if the motor can turn either way. Any place to get them cheap? I only paid $40 for the drone so 120 on motors proabably isnt going to happen

Same. The second I saw the thread title I knew. Same as most everyone here I suspect. An extra shame since we just reminded about NOT using the longer screws in a thread only about a week ago. Since it happened many dozens of times over the years, last week when we mentioned it, we should have knocked wood or touched wood depending on which side of the pond people reside. We didn't, so we tempted fate.

@jbg506 - welcome to the forum. Sorry about your misfortune so soon after buying your P3.

You can check around with sites like 'Flea-Bay' , or drone repair shops in your area. There are two routes you can take in repairing the drone.

One is to replace all 4 motors...2 CW and 2 CCW. Two is to replace all 4 motors AND the center ESC board as one unit. This is pretty much 'plug & play' since there is no soldering required. Just replacing only the 4 motors requires desoldering the original wire connections, and soldering in the new motor wires. Splicing the motor wires usually fails, although some have done it successfully. So, how are your soldering skills ?
.
Welcome to the Forum. Don't get discouraged too quickly. Many of us have had similar experiences, and will offer any advice and guidance that will get you back up and running.

Don't jump at the first set of motors that you see for sale, .......or a complete motor/ESC board. Many members part out their older drones to other members that often need replacement parts.

This is an example of a complete ESC motherboard with motors, leds, and main power connectors attached........
