Been looking online and DJI seem to have launched a Phantom 3 SE. As far as i can see its a P3P but under a new banner sort of like apple did with the iPhone SE. It appears to be considerably cheaper than the P3P which obviously makes it an attractive option.

My question is does anyone have one? or is it only available in China?

Edit - this is a link to one - Only £508.39, DJI Phantom 3 SE Wifi FPV RC - Tomtop.com

Not sure on how reliable the site is but it appears to be real.

That's not even the DJI site, that's the site for tomtop.com and it's just the phantom 3 standard. Nothing new about it.

The P3 SE is as far as I know STILL only a Chinese Market model and under test.

The specs for it make it very interesting and if I was looking for another P3 ... it would be very high on my list - possibly at the top. WHEN and IF it ever gets general world-wide release.

As another says - TomTop is not DJI ... in fact its an eBay online seller ... with both eBay and Direct web shop.

No it is not a P3S .... the P3 SE has been on Chinese market for months under test ... with some dealers offering it outside China ...
I doubt any warranty though if you are not Chinese Mainland owner ... as its not cleared for other countries ie USA / EU

Nigel

I appreciate its not DJI's official site it does appear on there but just says not available in your country I have used a VPN putting me in China and it is on the DJI site when it thinks I'm in China.

Haven't got round to checking if its in the USA yet I'm assuming it will release there is its successful in China.

It looks like a good piece of kit! Hopefully gets a world wide release at some point soon!

I checked the specifications and it's just a Phantom 3 4K with another name. It's wifi based.

Sorry ..... not quite correct ...

I agree that the basis for the SE is most likely inventory of P3 4K items unsold and upgraded to produce the SE ... but thats' where it ends.
You have dual GPS / Glonass ... you have serious increased range.

Having looked at this SE when it was first announced months ago - I noted the power ratings of the RF / WiFi and they lay outside CE and FCC limits - so its going to be interesting to see if it ever breaks out of Chinese market OFFICIALLY ....

Dual GPS is awesome, similar in specs of the Autel x star premium but with more range.

OK .... lets put this Dual GPS item to bed ....

I have 'grown up' with GPS having been a Professional Ships Navigator for many years through Sextant .. Decca .... Loran .... RDF .... Omega .... Transit and GPS (Galileo, US GPS and Glonass). I also worked with INS ... Doppler, as well as Syledis and other extremely accurate Seismic systems.

The misunderstanding is how a Dual system works and generally how a multi-channel SatNav does.

To have a reasonable 2D position requires 3 sats ... for 3D position 4 or more.

Then we come to errors that are inherent in the system. This means that any position data jumps around and is NOT constant. Ground stations monitor the satelite data sent out and if a Satelite is in error - it is 'flagged' and taken off line or corrected.
Note that due to reduced funding that currently US based GPS is behind in its maintenance and replacement schedule.
Anyway ... so you have a receiver that can receive 22 ... 30 ... 32 sats or whatever ... This is where the biggest misunderstanding occurs. The Rx receives data and calculates positional data. It will reject most and accept what it believes are correct. It does not use all sats data for the final position.

Current C ommercial SatNav accuracy is NOT to cm's .... but to m's .... It is down to repeated position calculations and iterations to reconcile that leads to reasonable accuracy.

You can take a sophisticated navigation GPS Satnav plotter and switch on ... leave it for one day in position. The plot you will see at end of that period will astound you just how wide diameter the position data is ... The plot will be all over an area jumping around.
Navigation equipment usually has a trick up its sleeve - averaging. It takes the data of speed / course as well as position on each calculation based against previous and averages out to try remove the gross anomalies. Remember speed, distance and course are calculated from two or more positions over time. The time frame used by SatNav is extremely short and in extrapolating out this also causes errors.
Car SatNav uses 'Jump to Road' unless you accept Off-Road warnings ... this can be seen clearly when joining / leaving highways / bridges etc when roads run parallel for a distance.

OK - why all above ? US GPS SatNav and Glonass increases the number of Sats that can be used to calculate before rejecting most - and in this should increase accuracy.

Now back to SE which I am hoping will be allowed globally ... but I fear that RF power will be cut back making it a poor cousin of the Chinese version.

Interesting read. Thanks, Nigel! (Yes, I'm one of those "techie" types that actually enjoys reading things like that).

It will work anywhere - but given the power levels of RF transmission - it is going to be difficult for DJI to get CE / FCC and other national certification .....

We already see the crap we go through with CE / FCC with existing models .... and the signal levels.

I would like to have the SE - but not willing to spend out money to then have it stopped at import station. How much of your money will you then get back ? Some import stations around the world do not send it back to origin - they impound and destroy ! Seller - is he going to refund you ? Bet they have sales clause that import duties etc are buyers responsibility.....

Nigel

The se is very bad due to the review I had seen online, the se claims to have a 1-2 second video delay due to long range wifi horrible and would rather get a p3a or p3p

Would be nice to have the link to the review ......

Considering that I am not only one to push a P3S to over 4km - and WiFi has worked with only a few glitches .... I would expect the SE to be able to work to spec range.

Nigel

For those who are interested .... I have been in communication with DJI and this is their answer to my question : Is the 3 SE available for sale outside China Market ...

"Dear Nigel,

Thank you for contacting DJI.

Phantom 3 SE is only available in China at the moment, as it's a new try and we will follow and analyze the reactions from China market to decide whether to push the new product to overseas market in the near future. We don't sure the time when it begins in EU market at present ,sorry for that.

Please keep an eye on our website, thanks for your patience and time.

Regards,
Michael"

Dated 29 June 2017. So not an old comment.

This then questions TomTop statement that 3 SE is certified for use CE etc. - HOW ??? If DJI have not released the 3 SE for sale outside China ?

"Dear Nigel,

Thank you for your inquiry regarding:Only US$619.99, us DJI Phantom 3 SE Wifi FPV RC - Tomtop.com
Your original question is Can you confirm Phantom 3SE is certified for use in EU and USA ? I see that DJI say this P3 SE is not available outside China. But I see you and other sellers offer this model. I would like to buy but need to know Certificate status first.

Reply By Customer Service Center:
Yes, have CE certification

You can also email to me for more details: [email protected]
Best regards,
