Oops... bad news - good news

Three years ago my Chevy Van caught fire. I was on a service call, parked under a church's covered parking. Right behind the customers car. My van was totaled, it damaged the church and the other car. My insurance company paid me for my van within about 10 days to 2 weeks. However, I had several recorded calls from investigators about what happened. Had I modified the van or had any recent work done on it etc. I'm sure if they could find any reason to not pay the claim, they would have jumped on it. I even heard from a forensics specialists asking about some strange wiring they found. I suspect I could have been denied, or worse, charged with insurance fraud, had there been any. They eventually paid for the church and car damage as well. In fact, they did a great job. Liberty Mutual.

Read your policies because that's what they go by. BTW, a couple of days after the fire, I receive my first Phantom 2 vision from amazon. I didn't even open it for 2 days I was so bummed...

Ya... thing about drone forums... wives don't really dig too deep into those, do they?! LOL
If she did my wife would bring up the you almost killed us with that rented jet ski that cost us almost a grand to get fixed because you're an idiot show off. I'd have to shut up promptly :D #notanangel

Ok, it's getting a little too doppelgänger now... truck, motorcycle, and near death on a jet ski. If my wife read the forum you'd be reading right now about how I tried to kill her on a borrowed one but was too close to shore so there were witnesses...

Same name in the US. It's for expensive itemized things. Regular insurance only covers property like paintings, rings etc. up to about $2000 in value unless you mention them. There is an extra cost but it's peanuts.

My drone is actually covered for theft from the house, car or if I ran over it in the driveway under the homeowners policy. The problem is the deductible is more than the repair cost, otherwise I'd just run it over after a crash, take a picture with the rubber marks and claim :)
I had a dream last night that I drowned my drone, that I entered the water to retrieve it, and that I assumed the bird would work perfectly once I dried it out. I powered up the drone after it dried out. I expected it to work perfectly because I've read stories about stuff, and as everyone knows, if it's on the internet it must be true.

I am now afraid to go out flying this weekend. I go sho
Actually they probably would cover that. I know a few jeepers that have rolled jeeps on off road trails (not actually roads) and insurance cover it. What they won't cover is any add ons like lifts etc. unless you tell them about them beforehand. That's the whole point of insurance, it covers you for your mistakes as well as other's mistakes. That's what I pay for and that's what I'll ask for in return.

My wife backed into my truck once, total driver error. No way I'd eat that cost when I'm paying someone to cover that.
My vehicles are insured for liability, theft and collision. I doubt that, with my affordable, reasonable policy, that they would cover me for flipping my vehicle on a steep hillside.

I suspect that the off-roader who is covered for damage as a result of thrill seeking is probably paying a bit more for insurance than I am.

Cheers,
rc

We both rented one each and I tried to splash her with mine by getting close and making a hard turn. I misjudged it all and ended up ramming hers putting hole in the side and it partially sank. To make it even worse it was at a company summer picnic event in front of co-workers. When I mess up I tend to really screw up and my wife will lightly remember it for eternity :D

Possible, one of them had a brand new jeep and I think you have to have full coverage if you're making payments.

LMAO well ya got me beat! All I did was throttle it too hard with her on the back, hit a two foot white cap and launch her half way to orbit... the landing didn't go so well... and she shares the same "wife memory" yours does...

I got a notice that my P4 has been repaired today. Coincidentally, I received the check covering the repair cost from State Farm today as well. I deposited the check, and paid the automated invoice that the repair shop sent me. Just got another email telling me that my drone has shipped via FedEx. I should be flying again by the weekend. Yay...

NC State Farm said the same thing on 3 different occasions. They were adamant (almost rude TBH) about it. Due to their rudeness we moved all of our insurance to another organization.

Guess insurance laws etc in different states allow different policies.

State Farm in NC will issue a Personal Articles Policy that will cover drones. I got my policy for $60 about a month ago. Covers up to $3000 in items. Got my P4, Nikon DSLR & some firearms on the policy. $0 deductable, covers theft, damage from crashes & fly-aways.

I wonder, since yours are used Commercially, that is the reason they will not cover them.

So, back to the point, I have yet to hear or find anyone who has filed one of the $22.00 state farm coverages and been reimbursed for the cost of a damaged drone.

It seems cheap, but having dealt with insurance companies, "Denial" is a way of life.

I await someone to inform me of a reimbursement for full repair for a drone by State Farm

Uhm, see post #13 & #49 in this tread. OP has already received the check for full repair cost.

In NC, the coverage is $20 per $1000 coverage, with a $60 min. policy amount.

No, what I'm saying is that if I drive my car into a tree because of my poor driving, State Farm shouldn't cover it. Crashing a drone into a tree is pilot error, which shouldn't be covered. If the drone falls out of the sky because low battery warnings were ignored, State Farm shouldn't cover it. If I was the victim of random failure I would submit a claim. FWIW, if it was me I wouldn't submit a claim for my risk-taking, I'm morally and ethically opposed to do so, but even if that wasn't the case, I would be embarrassed to do so.

Sorry, gang, I call em' as I see em'.

An insurance policy is a contract. It determines what is and is not covered. Read it all. Particularly read the exclusions. There's always one for intentional damage or loss. I never heard of an exclusion for foolishness. However, you are always free to not file a claim when a loss occurs. For one thing, filing a claim very likely results in a much higher premium come renewal time, and possibly even a refusal to renew. That's how it is with car insurance too.
