Manual vs. Auto focus

Can you please share your thoughts?
Has anyone seen a tutorial on this...? I could not find t in the manual.
Would you use a different technique for photos vs. video?

Note that the focus threshold setting feature isn't available on my system (Android, nVidia Shield K1). Maybe not available on Androids, or is it just me?
