lost over the sea - need help with the log

greetings to everyone

the only thing that i wanted to share with you is that few hours ago i ve lost my p4p over the sea.. it fell like a rock from the sky without any sign of malfunction.. still wondering what if there was someone swimming and that flying rock fell over his head?? .. im really frustrated right now.. we are double and triple checking everything before during and after every single flight .. for what?? for losing our equipment just like that?? for being the cause of a potential serious accident?? really dont know what to say with dji..

i really need to know what happened there.. theres not much included in the log..

That's what your flight log shows too. It looks like the battery probably disconnected mid-flight.

it was well attached.. double checked before flight.. clips were solid..

is there any other way to determine the cause of the incident?? im really lost right now.. what if there was someone below.. i saw image transmition signal weak.. pulled the stick up right away.. and then app said disconnected.. what if it didnt fell into the sea and it flew off?? how am i about to find out?? phantoms were and are well known for flyaways

You'd need to recover the drone to access the DAT flight log where any remaining flight data would be stored. However, if the battery disconnected, that flight log probably stopped just as suddenly.

In cases like this where the data just stops, the data can only be useful to eliminate other potential causes for the loss of the drone.
Your data stops with the drone flying forwards and a little right at full speed (13.4 metres/sec).
It was out in the open with no obstacles to block signal.
The pitch, roll and yaw data show that the drone didn't collide with an obstacle or have a bird strike it.
The battery started fully charged and was only down to 96%.
The water where the drone fell was 35 metres deep.

Losing signal doesn't cause loss of the drone.
On losing signal, the drone would initiate the loss of signal action, which is RTH unless you've changed it from the default setting.
The screen message says disconnected, because when the power is lost there is no signal to be connected to.
Your drone didn't "fly off".
If your drone "flew off", you still would have had signal and the data would show where it flew to.

No .. Phantoms were never "known for flyaways".
Since 2015 DJI drones have had recorded flight data that allows us to investigate lost drone incidents and find out what happened.
Data analysis has shown that in most cases where owners claimed their drone flew away, they were mistaken and the actual cause was often operator error.

The water where the drone fell was 35 metres deep.

the only thing i know is that its way down for someone to try without scuba equipment to retrieve it.. but.. there were 2 boats at that time close by.. what if one of them managed to catch it?? i know that im trying to eliminate the devastation right now.. even if i know that i stand no chance of seeing it again..

im trying to eliminate the devastation.. even if i know that im never gonna see that drone again.. im trying to accept the power loss but i cant.. there was no sign of mulfunction in previous flights.. no sign with that battery and no sign with any of the other ones that i dont know that to do with them right now..

anyway.. if you check on event stream there are two reports.. something about motors.. i feel that there was an esc going off by that time.. there was someting off with the voltage by that time.. i dont know if that was the cause of power loss.. but it would give us an eplanation of what happened..

into the flight records of your device there is an other folder where drone saves the same .bin files as on its on board sd..

The difference is that the onboard DAT flight log can still record data even after the remote controller disconnects from the drone.

Just wanted to say sorry for your loss. I too lost a phantom over water. I know what it feels like.

how common is that failure on p4p v1 or v2?? somebody told me that v2 has the same risk as v1.. thought it had a sensor to prevent flight is battery isnt good..

@msinger how about power loss from sudden swole?? if battery had a failure and got swolen midflight.. i think same could happen.. it gave something about motors on event stream.. battery is sitting close to escs..

ive lost a mavic 2 some years ago.. sudden battery swole (it left a mark on the plastic below) .. it popped up and went down in the water in front of me.. found the drone fully corroded in a matter of hours.. couldnt locate the battery..

Battery failures aren't nearly as common as pilot errors that lead to crashes, but we do see quite a few posts about them in these forums since people come here to troubleshoot their flights. That said, they still happen rarely enough that it's not accurate to call battery failure a common issue for the Phantom 4 Pro or any other DJI drone.
