Issues with the Essentials

Hey all, my buddy just gave me his Phantom 4 as he no longer flys it but I am having issues getting the drone to actually turn on. The circle on the battery stays lit after a couple of moments of bar flashing but there is no sound or action from the lights on the underside. Does anyone have any advice?
