Struggling with an Essential Step

My buddy just gave me his Phantom 4 as he no longer flys it but I am having issues getting the application/ controller to connect to the drone. I have downloaded the app and registered, I even updated the firmware, but no luck. I am using the DJI Go 4 app and when I enter the device I get a "device not connected" notification in the top left corner. Any suggestions?

....do you have USB from remote to device conected.....what colour your remote lights,,nice and green,,,if you have red and green try relink

Is the led on the remote green? Probably not. Follow the linking procedures between remote and drone. When green, connected, Go Fly.

Drone battery or remote battery? I assume it was the remote. Glad you solved it.
