Creating photos in 4k

Hi, is it a good idea to take video in 4k and then when editing I use the 1080 settings, am I getting any benefit there.
 
In most cases it turns out smoother because your compressing 4k resolution into 1080.

You will get more details by shooting in 4k and then scaling it down to 1080p than just shooting 1080p.

You do get 4X the color data. The P3 records in 4:2:0. When you play the 4K at 1080 or process it to 1080, the color data is preserved at 4:4:4.
 
You don't get more details. You possibly get less noise. 4 pixels are averaged into one.
Hmm... There is definitely a difference in quality between shooting 4k and 1080p when exporting in 1080p and it's not just that the noise is a finer grain. I haven't compared the two on the phantom but I have been using the GH4 for many project and I can't imagine that the principle doesn't apply to the phantoms camera.
