Or even the forever open ended prop guards question; as the person might have a Phantom while everybody believes they have a V2 or V2+ (minor difference of 1" she said....)

Why would that matter, they are useless on all models.
Why do so many use them then?

Great question but I have no idea. I don't have training wheels on my bicycle anymore either... go figure.

Re: 6 constructive things we can do to make this forum bette

I don't really consider them TRAINING WHEELS. They will protect props against tip overs. I have two Phantoms. One with and one without. Now tip overs are not necessarily because of bad piloting. Both of my Phantoms take off very slow and sluggish in gps or atti which can lead to tip over and damaged props. If I take off in manual, very quick. No problem. I don't see my newer Phantom flys any better without guards as opposed to my other with guards. Now the added weight is a consideration.
Likes...they protect props and make quad easier to see at a distant.
Dislikes. ...only the added weight. Since I only fly for smooth video they are not a problem. Now if I was flying for max time and performance. ..take them off.

Re: 6 constructive things we can do to make this forum bette

I also don't feel someone using guards is a wuss or less of a pilot than anyone else. It's a matter of choice.

Re: 6 constructive things we can do to make this forum bette

I never thought any less of someone using prop guards either, and they they seem to make a handy carrying handle :D

Whoops, I forgot to turn on the sarcasm light and everyone missed the laughing emoticon. Anyways, I have never use prop guards on any of my quads, if you do, good for you. I feel they cause more harm than good so my personal preference is to not use them. I use mine for videography so the length of flight is important to me and I have enough crap hanging off of my bird limiting my hang time.

It seems that some do. It's like if they don't use guards, they are superior to the ones that do. I used to build and fly scale aircraft. Scale is almost always harder to fly. They would bring out their grossly over powered craft and fly. Sure, they could take off fast and almost straight up. But that's not real world. My scale type were not always easy to fly and I wanted them to fly in a scale like manner.
When I could take off and land like the real thing....it was so cool. We all have our ideas of what we want to do. Just don't piss on anothers parade because it's not your thing.

I have owned many types of RC vehicles over the years from electrics to nitro powered cars, trucks, and aircraft. I am also mainly a scratch build kinda guy. My first quad was X525 airframe built from scratch with a KK2 board... talk about hard to fly! Only one of my RC land based vehicles, (Slash VXL), is a RTR. I have built the rest from kits or scratch. These days it seems most just buy a RTR/RTF off of the shelf, which is OK as it gets people introduced to the hobby. I feel most miss out on how to build them and what makes them operate but I guess thats just me. I don't fly a quad because it is trending or cool, I do it for the love of the mechanics that make it possible for me to capture footage from altitude with control and accuracy.
I suppose life would be boring if we all liked the same things. Do what you love and love what you do. :)

just a thought for the moderators ... don't ban me

More forum stickies for hot topics or frequently asked questions.

Make a forum called RESOLVED -basically users would post original problem and how they resolved... (locked thread after OP posts)

love this forum just trying to contribute... thank you mods for all that you do! :geek: :ugeek:

+1 to that

Re: 6 constructive things we can do to make this forum bette

I don't have many flights under my belt, but apart from my very first landing which was text book all others have been a nervous affair. I much prefer to let it hover above me and pluck it out of the air.

This is a great idea...

But I think we have some contributors breaking rule #5 in the current thread, so why continue...

You nailed it. Stay on topic.
Typing 101: A single "I" is alway capitalized.
Proofread before clicking "submit." That should be number 1.
Agree with location statement. We don't need your address, but at least the Country you are in.

Re: 6 constructive things we can do to make this forum bette

Hey Clipper707, like I said before, Great thread.

Sorry to see it hijacked, but that's life. One must guard what's important to them.

So, back to your points.

1 - Search before posting - Someone may have had the same idea, question or news article before. Let’s try and avoid duplicate postings. Let's try and avoid duplicate postings.
I like using this: https://www.google.com/cse/publicurl?cx=014775389315664725445:ejku2ysgyhi

2 - Post in the appropriate forum - For example, the story about the White House lawn drone does not belong to the “DJI Phantom (The Original)” forum as much as it belongs to the General Discussion or News forums.
If you don't know where it goes, try asking in Off Topic or General Discussion.

3 - Use a proper title. Don't Clickbait - Please don’t make readers have to click open your thread to see what it’s about. “You Gotta See This” doesn’t tell me anything and isn’t a searchable title. Even worse, sometimes I click and see nothing in the initial post except a link, presumably to a drone video but could be South American gay penguin porn for all I know. Again, please tell us what we’re clicking on before we click.
"Hey Look At this" is NOT cool. I've probably done it, but now I'm older and wiser, maybe even smarter.

4 - Punctuate - sometimes its difficult were not all native speakers i get that i have no idea what someones trying to say all the sentences run together its frustrating it happens try please because it helps everyone just a little bit of effort you know what i mean
Yep, if you can, please do. If you can't, maybe just add a period and hit the enter key more often. We're here to read.

5 -Stay on topic. Don’t hijack threads. - If an OP is asking a question about a specific propguard quick-release, maybe it’s not the right thread to debate the evils/virtues of propguards in general.
Yep, again. STAY FOCUSED Sorry Clipper, that's hard to do. I'll try to do better. I hope others will too.

6 - Consider having a profile and signature. - You may have reasons for not wanting to share that information and we should respect that, but it's nice to know where folks are from and what they're flying.
This is more important than many other points. We can offer better advice if we know "where you are coming from". Folks in the Himalayas may post the same question differently than folks from Peru. Diversity is good, Misunderstanding is bad.

AND MY OWN ADDITION TO YOUR SUGGESTIONS:
7. - Anyone with "MAD" in their name is a total Jackass and should be ignored (EDIT: unless the live in NC).

I didn't read the previous 3 pages, my input would be to treat people nicer, just write as if someone was talking to you.

If someone says something just plain out there slap in the face stupid don't answer for at least a few hours then reread the post, many times you read it a different way, it's just part of the way we are built to react (and be just as stupid and not know it)

Be inclusive and not in the moment.

I agree Im just hoping that the original OP and moderators make the resolved forum i think it would be great.... I look forward to it..

Re: 6 constructive things we can do to make this forum bette

:D

Wasn't sure if I was gonna get slammed during the first few hours. SO good, we're BACK ON TOPIC!

capodrone81 got me thinking about this. A resolved forum would change things beyond the limits of my imagination. It's rare that we come across a "NEW" problem. Even I like to help someone with a simple problem. It makes me feel good, but how efficient is it to answer the same question each month? So, lets get to #8, because yes, I was serious about #7. ;)

# 8 RESOLVED: A place where a problem can be solved. Here's an example.
PROBLEM TITLE: I fly into trees.
SOLUTION THREAD: I stopped flying near trees with my eyes closed.

#9
Steveeds thinks we need to treat people nicer, and just write as if someone was talking to you.
Can anyone see anything wrong with that?

If you have a problem with #9, I hope you loose this sites address. :D

Hope I'm working with you Clipper707.

I'm encouraged by the responses to this thread. I love how it went off-track and someone yanked the wheel and were back on the freeway.

There were more than a few comments about treating people more nicely...I kinda wish I'd made that #1.

I'm disappointed that nobody caught what I did with suggestion #1.
