What should DJI do for the P5?

This is a fair point and many experienced similar stress cracks. Not sure I have seen someone advising possible cause and I don't want to get them too. Assuming not related to crash, any idea what could cause this? Sport mode with brutal brakes or turns?

Nah... It's the aircraft design. They need to upgrade it. I fly the crap out of mine. Almost never wide open but I do go on some long trips... My P3 developed a few hairline cracks after a ton of flights. 5 months later and I have another crack... Strong arms are going on after I reinforce the crack.

Just one request and that is to sort out the horizon issue, mine is 1.5 degrees out left to right

And before you pretend you know better, I am a prototype Engineer and work at a makerspace, i know what i am talking about.

You should have put this disclaimer at the beginning of your post. That way I wouldn't have wasted my time reading the rest of your post. Thanks

So, I believe that in reality, DJI will continue to evolve rather than revolutionize the Phantom line while not offering microphone jacks, pontoons,.

Baaaaaaaaahahahahahahahahaha. I just spit tea all over my keyboard.. Thanks for the laugh.

ability to stream live from Android . . . and a better editor (to upload) via the tablet/phone instead of thumbnail like files

What I want:
Lightbridge 2 - more range
More efficient battery / bigger battery = longer flight time
Better camera/sensor/higher bitrate
Removable camera - upgradeable and easier to fix if you crash it.
Make it so it doesn't sink if it hits the water
Design it so that it doesn't develop stress cracks.

What I don't want:
360 camera - I would not use it
Retractable landing gear - This is just another mechanism that can/will malfunction and it adds weight. I want longer flight times with more range...

To be fair you can replace the camera. They sell it on the site. It's 300 tho

A radar chip that sends a signal out letting planes know your in the area. Not a chip that send who it is. A lot of controllers are complaining droids are in the flight path.

You're talking about a transponder, here is what a transponder does:

A transponder is a radio transmitter in the cockpit that works with ground radar. When the transponder receives a signal from a more sophisticated ground "secondary" radar, it returns a squawk code with the aircraft's position, its altitude and its call sign.

Litchi supports P4 using iPad or Android on the RC. Check it out, I'm sure you'll like it, only $25. It's capable of 100% autonomous flight. You can layout the flight path on your PC at home and sync to the tabet, or layout the path on the iPad/Android in the field. Then upload the path to the craft and send it out on the mission, even beyond radio range, around mountains or tall buildings. It opens up a load of options not possible before.
That is not they type of mission planning required. Need to plan aerial surveys (eg take a photo with user selectable front and side overlap, over a particular region (for photogrammetry) Most autonomous flight modes support this: Drone Deploy, UGCS, etc, etc. You simply put in a area to be surveyed and the routing software configures the mission, where to fly, how often to take pictures, (fly home to change batteries) resume mission. LITCHI does not have these features.

  • I'd like the USB port on the remote to provide enough power to charge my tablet. (iPad Air2 in my case.)
  • I'd like the heights for RTH and maximum altitude to be relative to the current position of the Phantom instead of the home point. (Built-in topographical map for heights)
  • During RTH turn on obstacle avoidance even if in sport or atti mode. (Meaning automatic switch back into P mode during RTH)

I've only had my P4 for a few weeks but I must say that I love it. It worked out of the box as expected and has proven to work as hoped for in every way. I have one single problem, the tilted horizon; everything else about this baby just delivers. However, obviously, things can get better.

Without getting crazy, we need to consider that this is a business and things cost money and if it's too expensive few will upgrade. And things you put in your main product have to benefit the largest number of users, not just answering a niche.

So, what are you Most looking for in whatever next model, presumably the Phantom 5, will be?

For me, and let me clear the obvious ones out so we don't all mention them:
Faster & Further - duh!

I'd like the ability to click off a photo while video is running.
Smart Automatic Landing: if above water, do not land, hover at 2 meters until, literally, battery failure, but do not automatically land in water.
Higher resolution Photos
Higher ISO (6400?) should be available in both video and photo.
Add Rear Obstacle Detection
Improved Obstacle Detection and Avoidance
Send charging power to Android/iDevice from controller (bigger battery if necessary), switchable
Optional OEM Water Landing "feet"

Semi-Related: Not an upgrade but a demand:
FIX the horizon tilt - this is class action category annoying DJI, hello?!
.
...I'm hoping the P5 doesn't exist, I'm hoping for a whole redesign, yes better this, better that, a Better Looking Fuselage, Sexy-er, the Phantom Style, Look is worn out.. something between an Inspire and a Phantom, something with a Swept Back look with a pinch of Storm-Trooper Flare.. (the camera, thats a given, the current camera is a glorified Web-Cam)...

I'm only concerned with improvements of the camera. What kind of performance increase can we expect? The gap between the P3P and Phantom 4 is minimal - am I right?

More zooming capabilities both optical and numeric? However for now looks like rather prosumer line oriented.

I dont really care much for zoom. I want more dynamics in both contrast and colour - that is all. And in that department there were zero improvements between P3P and P4. Please confirm this, otherwise this is a selling point for me on the P4.

The worst scenario for the P5 for me is if the camera stays exacly the same but with "8K output". What a total unneccessary update.

Couldn't care less about obstacle avoidance either. What would be nice is water resistance which would allow me to film in snowy weather.

I seem to remember some saying camera was a bit improved physically speaking (lenses etc) but image processing likely very similar. I hope some advised image specialist will comment here or provide link to existing thread.

Just watched some P4 videos and realize that when the P5 hits, I'm definitely gonna want that update. And I cant afford that if I buy the P4..

So here's to waiting ^^

I wouldn't wait unless you have another drone to bide your time. From their history, DJI will probably do an incremental upgrade, possibly with software and flight time.

PS: I'd also like to see max flight radius distance for us distance fliers to be added to the Flight List stats screen. Top speed, top distance, max takeoff altitude and top speed are all fine, but that one extra stat would be helpful. Pretty sure, DJI wouldn't add that due to "encouraging" non-LOS.

A lot of good ideas , and some not so good. A couple of minor adjustments could be made , like making the tablet holder slightly bigger to have at least a 10 inch tablet fit without having to buy an extender . And how about a hook release for carrying/dropping items . Not knives ! haha
