tablet holder solution for controller

Thanks to the OP - I bought one and did a number of flights with it and my Nexus 10. While it's nice, I went back to the S3 today and I think it's better. Probably a 7" tablet is the sweet spot.

yeah i would imagine a 10" as being too big and heavy. the 7" is perfect for me.

After a couple of failures to come up with a good solution to mounting my nexus 7 to the stock arm ball on the vision controller, I finally found one. Works with my tradecraft case as well..just had to cut a notch in the foam so the holder could fit. http://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Univ ... let+holder

I too have purchased one of these and have mounted my 7" 2.4ghz FPV monitor on it. After a bit of working out best position , I got there in the end! Thanks for the idea tizzl10!

Is there a benefit to using a nexus7 or ipad mini?

Also how much clearer is the video when displayed on either of the two?
The video on my Nexus 7 (quad-core) is a lot better than the iPhone 5 I was using, besides being of course larger (old eyes) the wi-fi on the nexus is very fast, almost no noticable latency in the video from the camera. I am a MAC guy with IMAC's and iPad but I bought the Nexus just for FPV, the fact that it does all of the other normal 'Tablet' functions is a bonus.

Ok thanks for the info. I'm on my way now to get the nexus 7. Btw, I'm guessing you guys are using the newer 2013 version and not the 2012?

2013 has twice the ram and better resolution.

Anyone in UK done this/

Thanks to the OP.

Has anyone in the UK found a suitable holder with the right connector on the back to attach to the ball?

Yes - this is a match according to a different thread - I bookmarked the page ages ago, however our Kindle Fire is not man enough to play the video, so I suspect I will get a Nexus 7 at some point - Amazon.

This thread is very much appreciated. Thank you tizzl10.

I went yesterday and bought a Nexus 7 32gb(2013 verson) and have since tweaked the settings to my liking as well as adding my favorable android apps.

Per tizzl10 I ordered his recommended Tablet Holder with Ball Mount. $14.99
http://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Univ ... let+holder

Per Skipholiday I ordered his recommended Sunshade Hood to be used with the tablet. $9.99

cool..you wont be disappointed!

seahorse the nexus 7 is quite expensive, my wife bought me a "Life pad" from Asda at xmas, its a lot cheaper and it works fine with the PV2, and its only about £70. I think it works on android 4.1 or 2.

you can get the Nexus 7 2013 quad core, 2gb ram and 1920/1200 resolution for $209 shipped for the 16gb wifi version!
Personally I think that's a bargain.

Life pad is 1024/768 resolution 512 ram with 4 gigs storage and a much slower a9 cortex processor. $119 shipped

For the extra $90 bucks you get a much faster and eXpandable Tablet.

I'm not knocking the Life Pad, but there is a huge difference in these two tablets.

The life pad is more like the Kindle Fire in performance.

yeah pay the extra money to get a far superior device for viewing FPV. At first I had a cheapo tablet and ended up taking it back because the resolution was so crappy.

Minus the case, which I do need, this is my setup. Thank you for the link, my holder should be here by the 26th.
If I can just figure out how to post some pics, I will start sharing. I have great areas around my house in Southern CA, lots of elevation changes, ocean and more.

yeah you should have no issues mouting the air to the holder now that I think about it, however with the stock mount im not sure you will have clearance on the bottom of your ipad and the controls. you may have to move the bracket all the way towards the top of the controller. let me know how it turns out.

I bought the one you recommended and this one as well, since it adjusts the holder vertically which should allow clearance at the bottom of the iPad to keep it from overhanging the top of the controller and interfering with any of the controls, my only worry with this one will be if the ball mount is the wrong size.. and if worse goes to worse that will leave me with a good mount to use my iPad in my car:

Did the other mount work better? Any preference?
