Phantom 2 Vision Plus

^^ I cant open the link, im not allowed :(

I agree. A new version of the aircraft, even if it's got a 4-axis gimbal and wifi range to 20km doesn't make it a "+" in my opinion without better optics.

Don't get me wrong, I like the FC200 camera for my current purposes. If I wanted to take professional (i.e. publication print quality) photos or make professional (i.e. sell to clients for their use) videos then I wouldn't do it with an FC200. For sharing with friends and family and uploading to video sharing sites, especially with a 2 axis gimbal, it's great and gets a fantastic reception from the non-paying public. But I think there's a definite gap in the "low-end professional" category for a plug-and-play flying camera with FPV out of the box, operable by one person in a small form-factor and at least GoPro quality video and hopefully better-than-GoPro stills - not just from professional users (where laws allow that) but from high-end amateurs.

A tie-up with a well-known lens and/or camera manufacturer would be very good news - DJI have already shown they can work with Adobe on the post-production side, maybe they will pull a "name" out of the bag like that on the hardware side?

Well, if I look at what I want:
FPV-like capabilities: FC200 is all I need. Video and photos suck though.
Info on attitude and distance: FC200 delivers. Video and photos suck though.
Waypoint and Flytrex: FC200 is supposed to deliver this any time now.
Smartphone connectivity: FC200 delivers. Video and photo suck though.

So the FC200 needs a better camera? The GoPro Hero 3(+) has the video capabilities that I want, and a smartphone interface, but FPV is too slow (+5 sec.) and no info on attitude and distance.

I guess what I really want, is a way to feed the video signal of any camera to the Phantom 2 (vision) and add flight info to the stream, record video and photos and flight info (Flytrex) on one memory card. It seems silly to use a camera with build-in WIFI, SD card and battery, just to feed the signal to a FPV system? If you equip your phantom with all the necessary gizmos, you end up with a lot of redundant pieces?

Or maybe I just want a Phantom 3 with integrated gimbal board, Flytrex, video transmitter, GPS tracker etc...

I think it would be pretty shitty to forget us since the vision is new model. And what do they mean "fpv" isn't that what we have ?
What would be different?

well this is good to hear...just wish we had specs now... i just took delivery of my PV2 today and currently 3d printing a gimble for it....so I am not going to open the box yet and just wait to see the specs on the new PV2+....prolly going to be returning this one....I have 30 days.

The way I see it if it is just a gimble and the price is $200 more...I will keep what I have...if the camera is better and wifi range is better...this one i have is going back...

please post more info when you have it..

Bought my phantom March 5 at bh photo.
Wonder if I should return it with the extra battery and I have a tradecraft case that I can't return. And I just bought fpvlr antennas. Don't have them yet. I hate this. Never thought they would have a new version this soon.

I guess the Vision (which I own) is to quads, what Windows 3.0, ME, Vista and 8, are to operating systems ;-)

I am dying to see, if DJI keeps the 5.8 ghz Tx on the new vision, or scrap the concept all together?

from past history with DJI if they say April, it probably means August. :)

If they scrap the 5.8 then any new camera won't be backwards compatible and they'll have to drop the whole wifi to smartphone app concept. Unless they use some of the technology in the Light Bridge in a stripped down way?

That is actually a really reasonable thought :)

Light Bridge is too expensive for an upgraded Vision. Besides that, the 5.8 is proven and the technology has already paid for itself many time over. If the vision+ is new concept, then they will have to keep it under 2k. There are more and more choices on the market every day. I personally, would buy a newer vision if and when it is available depending on the upgrades. With all the gripes about DJI, they do build a good quad. 2 cents is all I have today.

And yes, Pull_Up - you are quite brilliant sometimes :)

Well too expensive is relative. They are only eletronics components. A 3-axis gimbal was about $10.000 two years ago, now $199 gets you a long way... Besides having to only support and maintain one technology would be cheaper for DJI in the long run. So maybe they just dumb down the parts in the firmware, who knows :) There will be no new hardware added to support waypoints etc. in the GS, just firmware upgrades :-D

I am a bit sceptical about a new camera. I have this theory that DJI probably thought they were going to give us a good camera with the P2V but when it came down to it they could not make a good one. It takes a lot of expertise to make a good camera, even the gopro with their huge R&D budget is not that good. From what I can gather, the Sony RX100 comes closest to a low end DSLR in terms of quality whilst also being light weight so my preference would be for DJI to provide a gimballed platform and some way of providing FPV using an existing camera from a specialist manufacturer.

What would be awesome would be a zoom feature on the camera. Obviously it would be a digital zoom not optical to keep the costs down, but yeah I guess thats one of the wish list.

I really do hope a Vision Plus comes out, as well as an upgrade for the current vision. Ive had mine now for almost 2 months and I love it, but now that Im really getting into it I can really see its short comings. I was about to purchase the rotorpixel gimbal but was really hoping for a DJI solution.

A better quality camera would be fantastic but right now Im happy for a 2 or 3 axis gimbal to improve the overall stability of the video.

+1 to this! DJI needs to stick to what they do best and let manufacturers of cameras stick to what they do best. I think if DJI partners with a major camera manufacturer like Olympus they would make a killing.
