Hi Peter, any good news on your experiment?

It's been a lot of messing about and I haven't had a lot of time, but think I have it figured out now. I'm waiting for some CF tubes to arrive from the UK and, as soon as I get them, I'll finish off the experiment and let you know if it works! :)

I think firing and control with Mk2 can be done using bits from these people.

With something like that I am guessing you will need a new controller not the standard Phantom one.

No, Tom, it's a separate unit, just for firing the shutter (much like the 'keyfob' thing I had on the Dronexpert mount)

Everything going OK Peter ? The thread is devoid of any new photos ;)

Anyway, the main reason for posting is that Sony have just released the RX100 iii which looks gorgeous but at £800 it should be !

Also Nikon have got into the act with their own little gem (want one :))

B and H Photo has it available for pre-order for 798 US dollars. At current exchange rates that would be 475 British pounds. Plus shipping of course.

If any of you are looking for a cheaper and larger sensor package than the Nikon & Sony offerings the Samsung NX-1100 flies ok with the Phantom 2.

It's what I'm using, although I don't currently have long range FPV, I'm looking at modifying the wifi antenna on the camera.

Samsung Prime Lenses are also excellent piece of glass and well suited to aerial photography. I use the 10mm fisheye, which has a micro-stepping auto focus, which is great for video and stills on a less than stable platform.

/edit

I just read about another alternative; the Nikon J4. It will weigh the same as the RX-100, have the same sensor size but also have interchangeable lenses, and 20fps photo shooting, which is a MAJOR plus. That equates to nearly full speed, 4k cinematic footage when stabilised in post, from a proper camera, and it is also relatively cheap.

Sorry Paul, I've been reeeally reeeally busy. We have our first Painting & Photography holiday people arriving tomorrow and have been getting the house, pool and garden up to standard. Sunday is a 'free' day for the guests so I might be able to find time to give an interim update.

The good news is that I flew the rig briefly this week on a rare windless day and it flew fine, even at 1,550g. So if I can take some pics and write a report on Sunday, I will. Effectively, after a lot of experimentation, I've found a way to hang the RX100 beneath the GoPro/Zenmuse 3d and use the two cameras as a sort of Heath Robinson TLR. It's all very DIY but it's the results that count, isn't it?

PS
the new Sony weighs 290g
