Hi everyone! I just registered on this site. I'm looking to purchase a drone for hobby purposes. Hoping to get some input and/advice on what to look at. I have read a few article and I am leaning towards the Phantom 3 for price reasons and ease of use. Any suggestions? What is the difference between the pro/standard/advanced models? Thanks in advance!

Welcome to Phantom Pilots! :)

What is the difference between the pro/standard/advanced models?
Here are the main things you should know about the Phantom 3 models:

Phantom 3 Standard (P3S):
  • Uses Wi-Fi, so it has a shorter range (0.6 miles FCC or 0.31 miles CE)
  • Distance might be cut shorter in highly populated areas due to interference from nearby Wi-Fi networks
  • The remote controller is a lot more basic (many common functions can only be accessed in the DJI GO app)

Phantom 3 Advanced (P3A):
  • Uses Lightbridge, so it has a longer range (3.1 miles FCC or 2.2 miles CE)
  • Has downward sensors to help the P3A hold its position
  • Has a much nicer remote controller (all of the major function have buttons on the remote controller)
  • Camera is no better than the P3S's camera

Phantom 3 Professional (P3P):
  • Uses Lightbridge, so it has a longer range (3.1 miles FCC or 2.2 miles CE)
  • Has downward sensors to help the P3A hold its position
  • Same remote controller as the P3A
  • Camera is also able to record video in 4K
  • Camera has a higher video bitrate (must-have if you're going to use FPV goggles)

For more information about these Phantom 3 models, check out the P3S specs, P3A specs, or the P3P specs.

Hello,
It is a pleasure to welcome you to the Phantom Pilots forum.
I hope that you will be able to use the forum to further your safety knowledge and for the exchange of innovative ideas and as a resource for current developments in DJI quadcopter’s.

If you have the extra flow, go for the P3P, but they are all good choices.

I picked up a P3P today from a local hobby shop that they were selling for an estate. They cannot find the charger, so if anyone has one they can part with I am interested.

Gonna take a lesson or two from the store and then dive in!!!!!!!!!!

If needed, here are a few places where you can buy a P3P battery charger:
