Hi,

I know that they are micro USB ports, on the drone itself and on the gimbals, but what are they used for and how do I access their functions?

You use it to transfer pics and vids from the drone if you don't want to remove the sd card.

The one on the gimbal is for transferring files from the Micro SD card, and the one on the front of the aircraft is for downloading flight logs when it is put in the correct mode.

What mode is the correct mode to put it in?

For accessing the SD, you just need to turn the drone on. For getting the flight logs, which you would only need to do if you have problems, you would choose "Enter flight data mode" in the Advanced settings for the aircraft in the DJI Go app.
