I'm a Light Sport Pilot flight instructor and FAA Designated Practical Examiner (fixed wing and powered parachute) and also a private pilot. I started getting phone calls last year from people wanting to get their light sport license so they could operate drones commercially and I had absolutely no idea what they were talking about. I had zero knowledge about drones so I had to call my inspector in Oklahoma City and get the scoop.

Seems like word is getting out now that you can get a sport license for a fraction of the cost of a private license. The going rate in my area for private is about 7,000 compared to around what I charge of 1,500.

After figuring out all the rules and regs, I decided to get into the drone business and yesterday started an LLC. Excited about this journey and looking forward to learning tons from you all!
