BeginMode newbie; maybe 40 total short flights;
Was at beach end of blue "carpet" in center of image here:
Google Maps
(lightly used beach entry-exit, maybe 1 person per minute)
Made sure take-off & before landing no one nearby entering
or leaving beach via this blue carpet; but while in process of
landing (height about 6 ft) a senior jogger rushed by me & in
less than second, apparently heard drone -- slowed -- but
BARELY went around it by ~2 ft while exiting beach.
Admittedly, I was stunned in his rush by me (I was about 4ft from drone)
& if I had do over, would have YELLED stop or jerked drone upward!!!
I landed drone, went to him, said, "sorry but I didn't see you -- you could
have lost and eye,", his response, "what happened?" I took it as a senior
having a senior moment.

Still freaked about legalities of this -- how it could be my fault.
People run into moving cars because of inattention,
run into moving bikes because of inattention,
so can a landing drone put someone's eye out without it being
drone owner's fault????? Other opinions?

Sure it can be your fault and good luck defending this.

There's an expectation of cars, bikes, etc. on roads and streets.

Where is the expectation of someone operating a model aircraft on the beach or any public place not normally associated with them?

You have an obligation to operate in a safe manner and location taking reasonable precautions preventiimg public endangerment.

HI Yip gota expect the unexpected,,,,not really the best place to launch from,,people come from nowhere,,all the best for future flights and yes blade can cut

Well said. In that particular location there is a reasonable usage expectation for pedestrial traffic (in all it's forms) not a landing zone. ;)

I tend to error on the side of caution and try to be as conscientious as possible of others area usage. I wouldn't have felt comfortable flying at all in an area clearly designated for patrons. However, just a couple of blocks North, where the lounge chairs end, is a clear stretch of beach that would likely be much better suited to fly to your hearts content.

This sounds more like a highly used area if people are crossing the area every minute. Why not take off and land in an area that is always clear of all people? It would be one less thing you'd need to worry about next time.

Pretty sure that if he had collided with your drone, you too would be in a world of pain. You would be deemed the operator of a piece of equipment with full responsibilities for ensuring the safe and proper operation of said craft. I would have crapped myself if that had happened to me.
