Install OpenWRT WebUI on Repeater/P2V+

As was mentioned before (but maybe not confirmed) the P2v range extender (re500) already has the web gui installed, but they have apparently removed this in the P2V+ extender (re700). That's what I have been working with is a re500 and the WebUI/luci is already on it as it comes from DJI.

Thanks for the info on my GoPro connectivity quest, good ideas there. I realize the GoPro antenna/range is complete crap, but with a good directional antenna I would be stoked with getting 300m. I just cant bring myself to fork out $700 for a replacement vision+ cam just yet, so 300m is far better than the 30ft. I'm currently getting haha. I have a couple of extenders laying around so its not a big deal to me if I end up bricking one.

I'm holding out to see how much this "adapter" board is going to cost if they ever release it...

As JayC said before. I too ran into problems while trying to install Luci on the P2V+.
Mainly because on the openWRT site the packages directory for has an extra packages in the path. so it is now Downloads.openwrt.org//blablabla/packages/packages/bla...
Luckily i had a friend with me that is a master at installing OpenWRT on all kinds of devices he can get his hands on (small routers etc) to turn them into small webservers.
We also tried to install SSL with Luci but had no luck doing so, so now it's just luci. But without this buddy i couldn't have make it happen !

I have seen an issue after trying to log in, with my laptop it all seem to go ok, after restarting i still might have some issue, i tried to connect with the Vision+ booster app but wasn't able, this was just because i changed the root password (because i go to a hackercamp, flying around my DJI phantom will ofcourse get them into trying hacking it and maybe crashing it...) So i thought it might be wise to change the admin password, but the util then doesn't work.

Maybe i'll put the powercommand into the startup script of Luci so that is applied automatically everytime.
And i will ask the creator of the Vision+ booster app to be able to work with custom root passwords.
But your manual was of great help and already explained a lot.

Now please excuse my nooby question.

Does this mean that I can potentially modify the SSIDs via the WebUI in the P2V+/P2V repeater to get it to work with the FC40 camera? :?

I don't see why not!

I've not personally tested (nor do I have access to test) an FC40 camera.. but it's WiFi and so is the repeater. Should work with the proper config.

In that case, will I be able to connect to the repeater directly with my laptop without the P2V camera? Or will I need to set up a WiFi AP with a SSID in the same format as the P2V camera?

Thank you so much for your help LK!! Really appreciate it.

I'll get a P2V repeater and see if I can get it to work with the FC40 camera. ;)

I tried to install the openwrt on my repeater and followed the very excellent instruction of linuxxkid. Thanks for that.
Well, at the point of "opkg update" putty tells me, putty returned with address not found. Obviously the packages under "downloads.openwrt.org" are not possible to connect to. 127.0.0.1 host are connected correctly and SSH connection is fine as well
My connection to the repeater is fine, internet connection via LAN is fine too. I am not a specialist but also not new. I need some help please, any suggestions?.
For now I started my Lighttcp again ad hope everything is working fine. Will check it later.

There have been some reports that the openwrt directory structure has changed. I'll look into this today and report back.

I know linuxkidd is very busy in his normal day job, so perhaps I can help out.

I ran into this exact situation tonight, here is how I got got around it. I assume people here know how to edit their config files in Linux.

In this file on your Phantom/repeater:

/etc/opkg.conf

You need to change the following line:

Code:
src/gz barrier_breaker http://downloads.openwrt.org/snapshots/trunk/ar71xx/packages/

to

Code:
src/gz barrier_breaker http://downloads.openwrt.org/barrier_breaker/14.07-rc3/ar71xx/generic/packages/

After you do this, 'opkg update' will update correctly.

It looks like the openwrt project have changed their directory structure, so while this fixed the issue for me I'm not sure why there was such a change in the directory structure.

Sorry for my ignorance... How does one go about editing this file on the repeater/phantom? Can you explain? Thanks for your help and response!

Nevermind. Got it to work. Edited the config file using the vi command. Thanks for the help! All good now!

Does anyone know why my vision+ and repeater are on different channels? My repeater shows to be on channel channel 1 and the phantom is on 10.... Is that the case with everyone else? I never changed anything (yet) and it has been working fine. Just curious if anyone has run into this and if so will changing the channel (in luci) to the same number (for each) cause issues? Or should I always pick two different channels for the repeater and phantom?

They have to be on the same channel or it won't work.
The Phantom is the access point and the range extender is a WDS repeater.
If the repeater isn't on the same channel, it won't repeat.

In my experience, the repeater comes on at Channel 1.
When the phantom comes on it's on channel 2 and the repeater then changes channels to channel 2 to match.

Your channels my differ but i expect the repeater is changing channels after the two sync up.

Yeah the repeater is on 1 and the phantom is on 10. I haven't changed anything. This is the way it has always been and it works fine. Not sure...

It does look like once the phantom camera connects to the repeater it forces the repeater to transmit on whatever channel the camera is on. But I do see that the repeater itself still shows to be on a different channel band.... Its weird... Could just be a bug or issue with the luci interface connecting to the phantom....

On a side note (for those that are interested) If you change your repeater to have encryption and add a password, you can hold down the reset button on the repeater to wipe this encryption/password. I did this last night, after entering an incorrect password (which I couldn't remember) and wasn't able to connect to the repeater. I hit the reset button and was back in business. You will have to rebind your camera to the repeater afterwards. The other good thing here is that it does not wipe the luci interface. Another interesting thing here is that when you change your repeater to have encryption and add a password, the SSID changes to "root". I had to go back and change the SSID to Phantom_xxxxx in order for the telemetry to come back on my app. Renaming the SSID with out "Phantom" in the beginning will break the telemetry connection. The video fpv and album view still work though. Just wanted to add this for people that have had similar issues/concerns.

How are you determining what channel it's on?
Just by the luci GUI?

I used inSSIDer from a laptop to scan all wifi signals and see what channel it's actually transmitting on.
I suspect that once the repeater changes channels, the change isn't reflected in the GUI.

HI Guys, I had a go at this mod as well but part way through i had a random pc reset. :/

I now cant log back into the repeater. Pings ok but trying to root all i get is Connection refused??????

That's very strange... none of the steps in this guide should disable ssh on the repeater...

I'm sure you've tried power cycling the repeater...

Try connecting only to the repeater Wi-Fi (no wired connection) just to make sure you don't have an ip conflict..

Do you know which step you were on when your system reset?
