How to correctly perform Firmware Update on PV2

Hello,

Has anyone made a step by step process on the correct way to update firmware? Just so us noobs dont screw something up? I'm in a country where its nearly impossible to get parts / use couriers to return if goes wrong.

There's no step-by-step that I know of, but it is a great idea. I CAN tell you these things that you should know that are not apparent in the file list.

1. Install your drivers first. Your Phantom and controller will likely need the drivers shown in DJI's file list before your computer will recognize them.

2. After updating the firmware on the Phantom, then the controller, you may need to AGAIN update the firmware on the Phantom a second time. I got a wacky battery error before my second Phantom firmware update.

3. Make sure you have well-charged batteries in whatever it is you're updating. The last thing you want to do is lose power on ANY DEVICE while you are updating firmware. Often, they are in very vulnerable states during the update, and a power failure could leave you with an expensive paperweight.

I did not realize that the RC Transmitter needed to be powered On before
turning on the P2V for updating firmware, and remain On during the
whole update process. Is this really necessary?

Also, it appears that the flight battery is necessary in the P2V for firmware
updating, instead of the critical parts of the P2V being powered by the
5v from the USB port.

Further, in the video, they attach the P2V to the computer first, power on the
RC Transmitter, then power on the P2V, and THEN install the DJI driver.
I would have tried to install the driver first, before the P2V was even
plugged into the computer, but a message from the driver installer
asks if the "controller" (what is that?) is plugged in, and quits if you
say No.

Finally, I would not have known to try to update the P2V a SECOND time,
after doing the first update, and after updating the RC Transmitter.

No updates for the camera (done via its SD card) at this point?

The DJI website says that v34 is the latest for DJI-Vision,
but I got v36 when I download the app's APK file from
the DJI site. Which is the proper version to be using?

(Just a safety point, applicable to all RC aircraft: transmitter on first, aircraft on second. Aircraft off first, transmitter off second. Not so safety critical doing updates at home with props removed but a good habit to get into to prevent your aircraft being controlled by interference/other radio sources before you are ready.) After performing the firmware update you might find the transmitter is slightly out of calibration (as firmware updates frequently reset calibration values to zero) and you'll be able to see that with the tx on and perform any calibration that's necessary.

The update process is confused by a popup window that
tries to be helpful, but tells you to reload stuff you already
loaded, etc. Finally ignoring it helped.

Having to open up the RC Transmitter, just to see if it needs
to be updated, is rather poor design, I think.

So I still need to do that.

Phantom firmware update went perfectly. But, is it correct that there is no update for the RC Transmitter and it remains at 1.0 ?

The 1.0 with no update needed is what I found on my RC Transmitter today.
The 4 joystick movements were exactly -1000 to +1000 and zero in the center position.
The two switches were 1000, 0, -1000 in the up, middle, and down positions.

I found the pitch-trim set at 7, and do not know how to change it.
The upper pot on the back might be for this, but I do not know.
Does anybody know what this does, and how to change it?

I see a new update came out today, thought I'd bring this post back to the top.

However when I plug in, It says everything is the latest version.. do i have to download off the dji site each time?

Thought the whole point of running a PV2 software was that it automatically checked for updates... am i wrong?

This is an update for the camera. The DJI website has the camera firmware and release notes that tell you how to install a camera update via SD card.
