Homemade dipole antennas for 2.4ghz

What kind of specs are you looking for in particular?

My old antennas are still inside the bird.
.
...Matt, well the Antenna specs of course, ..particular spec? ..I'm assuming its at least within the 2400MHz band so
I'd ask or would be interested in, the Return Loss Spec(s) within the applicable band(s) i.e. Chl's 13-20...

Honestly, I have no idea on specs like that. I would have no way of testing something like that. It's just a simple 2.4ghz dipole. No magic here at all. All I know, and the others members on this thread will confirm, is that it definitely and noticeably improves video range vs. factory.

A weekend? Nah... this takes like 1/2 hour tops. An hour maybe, if you made them from scratch.

The connection is made in the same place as the originals, on top of the camera/gimbal with rp-sma to u.fl connectors.

I get one weekend a month off work, the other weeks I get days off during the week....and by the time the kids homework is done, baths/showers, laundry, dishes, and bedtime come around...lol...i am ready to NOT tinker with something.

So, lol, ya....a weekend off project

You can sleep some other time. LOL. Yup, I know all about working weekends.... and Christmas morning.... and 4th of July, all those. I work at a big Casino.

UPDATE:

I'm sold out of the kits for the time being. I want to get some feedback from the people that purchased the first batch first, then I will happily make another 10 sets, if people are interested.

In the mean time, if anyone would like to build their own, I will gladly give dimensions and instructions on how to do so. (requires intermediate soldering skills).

Just got in the components to make mine. Just hope that Amazon sent the right stuff.

Matt if you don't mind send me the dimensions so I can make sure I'm on the right page before I build.

OK. Hopefully this makes sense. If not, I will clarify. yjander, I hope you don't mind that I stole your photo.

Well I've got the antenna made now to do the bird side modifications......

Nice. If you want to strengthen that assembly up a bit, cut a zip tie to 60mm, then cut 2 peices of black heat shrink to 30mm. Put the zip tie along side the "legs" and then put the 2 peices of heat shrink on. Like this:

Awesome idea. Now where is my heat shrink.....

Bought from mats175 and installed. Comparison test flight was with itelite on controller @ 1000' distance and 400' altitude surrounded by 100' trees. With stock antenna, video was choppy. With the dipoles video was steady. More tests when the weather warms up.

Awesome!!!

Nice antenna's!

I have my P3S apart for shell replacement due to cracking.
Is there any reason I can't use the existing wires that go to standard antenna's (by cutting them off) for this mod and mount them internally or vertically inside two legs - without using the SMA connectors?

The only reason I could think of is if the cable isn't shielded? I haven't cut one to check.

- First post here, I came from a Walkera Scout (POS), then built my Own F550. Just bought a 2nd hand P3S cheap.

No, you cannot cut and splice the factory co-ax.

They're on and ready. Now if this wind will calm down enough to give it a try. Maybe it will later today.
