During a P3 Pro flight, the controller lost contact with the drone. I noticed that the reading for the battery was getting low and feared the worst, but then the controller received a RTH signal. Since this was well before it regained contact with the drone, it made me wonder if the RTH signal is transmitted at a higher intensity?

The video signal and the control signal are not the same. You can lose your FPV video but still have control. RTH is not triggered by losing only your video signal. If you see the green LED lit on your RC, you can still control your P3 even if you've lost the video feed.

Are you saying that you actually did lose control and had a red light on your RC?

RTH will be triggered by the aircraft when it’s disconnected from the RC for approximately 3 seconds. No signal required. If it had a signal their would be no RTH, unless you initiated it with the RC.

RTH "Notification" (I'm assuming that's what you mean by RTH before reconnected) is merely a single "blip" of a signal. It would only take a fraction of the comms to get that back to the Tx where as in order to establish a new Tx to Rx Control link there is a hand-shake/verification protocol that has to take place. It's very possible the RTH notification came through at the same time as any other portion of the signal but since it's a single "bit/Byte" of data it's processed first while the rest is being authenticated.

I always thought when the aircraft gets disconnected it returns home assuming you set everything correctly. The rc will say returning home because it also has no signal and knows the aircraft should be coming back to the home point at this time. But I’ve been wrong so many times in my blessed long life if I had a dollar for each time I was wrong, I’d buy the whole forum a new Phantom.

There we go. BigA107 to the rescue. Now we know.

Yes I understand that, I have Litchi. It will finish its mission if you set it that way. I’ve only ever practiced with RTH, never needed it but good to know exactly how the function communicates.
