Extend Transmitter USB Outside of Case

Good video, thanks.

Suggestion: I
I might try to route the USB cable differently, trying to
avoid the wire going to the transmitter antenna.
One would not like the nearby ground of the USB cable
to suck up any of the energy from the transmitter.

It would be nice to have a rubber cap or plug over the new USB opening in the
Remote Control transmitter housing, to keep out the worms, dirt, and water.

This might be overkill, and I had imagined a simple rubber plug, but...

Oh, these look better:

the protection caps are a good idea ;)

found these on ebay

Mmmm will have to have a look at that. Whilst its not shown in the edited film I tried that cable in all sorts of positions and my fear was it could foul the control sticks. I have no specific electrical knowledge. Is it likely to effect the transmitter range ?

Bit late to the party but I saw I was mentioned on page 1
It's exactly the right length, needs no soldering just a minute with a Dremel.
I added this cable. http://bit.ly/1dVyucs
I went with big and chunky bulletproof USB rather than micro usb with I frequently snapped in other devices!

Very nice looking solution. What's keeping the jack from being pushed back into the TX???

-slinger

strong double sided tape on the back of the battery box to hold it in position while the top and bottom parts of the tx grip it
having just seen the video on here routing a long cable all around the inner case, the one i used is just long enough to come out of the micro usb connector, turn 180 degrees and make it to the bottom edge of the controller. if i ever have to take the tx apart again (the whole, reason for doing this was so i didn't have to!) i will take a pic and post it here

My thought - if you are going to hang a cable through a hole
coming out of the RC Transmitter, you might as well make it
long enough (at least a few inches) to plug directly into your PC.

I have not found a panel mount micro USB socket.

I got the extension cable that I ordered, but I'm going to hold off on modifying the controller until there's an update that requires opening it.

I haven't found one either. Neither jameco nor mouser has one, which makes me doubt that one exists, at least at the moment.

I got a couple of these Motorola right angle micro usb extensions from Amazon. It works great!

Thanks, exactly what I was looking for. Did you verify that it works correctly for data? Where it was sold as a phone charging cable sometimes they only carry the power leads thru and do not connect the data lines.

EDIT:
I ordered one on Amazon and some reviews indicated it worked for data transfer, so I assume all data lines are carried thru.

I haven't done a firmware update with it but I have had it connected to the assist software and did the stick calibration with it and that worked fine.
