6 stops? That is a major issue. What ISO and AV are you shooting at? What does the histogram reveal about the exposure when the problem occurs? The mechanical shutter, as you are likely aware, has a max speed of 1/2000s. In bright conditions at ISO 400 and f4 AV you could be 2 stops overexposed.
