Hey hang,

So over on the Facebook group (unofficial), one of the commenters stated that each time the pilot app or a third party app would start up, they'd need to re-connect with DJI's servers before you can turn of wi-fi or the cellular radio.

I didn't think that was true, thought it was only once to register the app and device, but thought I'd see if anyone knew for sure.

Thanks

Blade over on rcgroups said that you don't need a data connection to fly.

A data connection is only needed if you want to stream video to YouTube or see the maps. You can of course cache the map images prior to flying if you have a tablet that has Wi-Fi only.
