Best Range Extender Antenna Thus Far!

So the Argtek has served one important function for my Phantom. That is... it has enabled me to install an Alfa APA-M25 5.8ghz 10db flat panel antenna on my remote. The original argtek blue proton range extender kit was plagued by poor quality 5.8ghz antennas. However it is still completley salvageable. If you are like me and have discovered the range of this kit insufficient even though it was properly installed... There is hope. What worked for me was installing an Alfa APA-M25 5.8ghz 10db flat panel antenna on the middle terminal of the argtek base and a pair of the smaller Alfa 2.4ghz 7db RP-SMA antennas on the outer two. These can be ordered from Amazon for a total of 40 dollars and shipped very quickly. You will then be a member of the mile away club.
 
Do you have a picture of your setup?
 
the base of my ArgTek cracked, i had to crazy glue it to keep it all together, never abused it, I guess the weight of the setup when assembled causes undo stress on the cheap plastic tabs, mine works pretty good though

Lol that looks sick. Why did you opt for the Standard and not the SE or the Advanced for the range?

I found this drone by chance. Bought it used for $200. It was the first real drone I've had. I kept wanting to go farther so I figured another $150 and fly a couple of miles. Thinking about getting a Mavic now. Lol
 
Here's a list. I believe this covers it except for the phantom 3 pro birdside receiving antennas for 2.4ghz.. Also I got 2 amps for 2.4 GHz. One helps but 2 is better. The hard part is getting all of this stuff on your remote securely so it doesn't brake off.

I couldn't agree more about the fabrication of mounts and such for fastening of those components securely to the controller. I'll come up with something. You have done the important part and given me proof of concept utilizing those components. Thanks for the details. I just may follow in your footsteps good sir.
My main concern with non Sunhans Amps (those I wasn't able to research the impeadence of) was the amplifier's input side internal anatomy not loading the secondary side of my transmitter circuitry properly and frying my remote via improper transmitter secondary inductiveload (50ohm required). This is a stupid and redundant question I apologize... Does your remote and amplified array function properly and perform as you intended? I was very worried about using a non hobby application amplifier because I didn't know if the input side circuitry of the router intended application wifi booster amp would properly load my remote controller transmitter secondary windings or instead fry them from an unloaded inductive kick reciprocating back into the transmitter's primary oscillator when powered on the first time I flip the switch.

The amps receive the signal and amplify that signal when powered. If the battery is not on and amps are not powered, then it's just as if you had a remote like you do know. Make sense? There's no additional power going through the actual circuit board and transmitter. As far as working? Hell yes I fly this thing in Dallas through apartment buildings, tree's and a billion wifi signals and consistently get 2 miles with no clear line of sight. Lol

I completely understand what you're saying. My worry was about having the necessary 50ohm load on the transmitter's secondary. Seems your setup does properly load the transmitter secondary windings at 50ohm impeadence since it's still functional.
That's awesome. Glad to hear it works well for you. I will likely do a similar fabrication with my remote. You have alleviated my worries about the transmitter's secondary windings. Like any reactive to inductive or resonant circuitry, an improper load on the secondary windings will cause an inductive kick to fry the primary oscillator windings. I have heard horror stories of people frying their remote in this way using the wrong antennas or some other form of inadequate load. Same as turning on the remote with no secondary load at all (without antennas) and then inductive coupling in the transmitter's oscillator cannot properly occur with unloaded secondary windings so the electromotive force cannot be coupled to the unloaded secondary windings the induced current on the transmitter's primary windings results in an "inductive kick" or kick back which fry's the oscillator.
Glad that's not an issue since your amplifiers must have 50 ohm impedance on the input. How long have you used this configuration? You are getting great range, it sounds like.

Honestly, I'm just a medical doctor. I looked at the power input for the amps. That's all I know.

I know one thing. Some of those cheap batteries on Amazon are not worthy it. I had one that felt a little odd during insert. I double checked and thought it was fine. WRONG... flying 2 miles away and all of a sudden disconnected! Bird crashed. I was using liatchi and found it with the find my aircraft. Now the Gimbel goes nutts when I power on. I've tried everything to fix it except new ribbon which comes on Friday. I'm about 3 seconds away from saying screw it and buy a Mavic. So frustrated

Someone asked for pics of my mounting Jerry rig. Lol. You can get all of this stuff from Lowe's or home Depot in the specialty screw drawers. They actually say hobby components. Anyways, I'm sure someone will find a better way to do it. I tried 2 other ways but this is the most secure. I don't have to worry about anything braking off.. now if someone can help me with my Gimbel I would appreciate it.

Does that antenna work? Looks like you’d need a wheelbarrow to carry it. What kind of distance do you get?
 
Thats quite the contraption,... certainly wouldnt want to go to that extent.... I would think all that metal on there would be a detriment to GPS and signal strength.
