Excuse me if someone else has already posted something similar, but I've been looking for an easy way to carry spare batteries with me without carrying an entire backpack.
This works perfectly:
MidwayUSA MOLLE AR-15 Magazine Pouch
It's designed to hold six AR-15 magazines, has elastic at the top opening of each pouch and a heavy duty velcro flap.
The batteries are held firmly by the elastic, and are too big to slide all of the way into the pouch, and the velcro keeps them from coming out.
This leaves about one inch of spare space at the bottom of each pouch that you could use for any non-metallic items.
