Working with the damping unit problem

I've been trying to put the gimbal on my phantom 2 and had a heck of a problem trying to get the screws in place the way the video shows, so I pulled it apart and screwed it that way.
Now how do you join the two halves together again?

I'm tempted to secure them together with wire ties.

Just pull the rubbers through the holes until they are in the correct position.
I then just stick a zip tie through one of the holes just in case.
