Do I have to remove the top of the FC40 for the installation? If so, which screw needs to be removed? Any special tools?

Go to YouTube. In the search box enter fc40 gimbal. There are many videos that explain exactly how to install the gimbal.
short version is yes the top has to come off. You remove all the screws except for the four beneath each motor. The legs can also stay on. Youtube has lots of videos on how to take it apart.
