Video transmission loss/freeze/exposure

Ok so I tried my data cable and a bunch others in my old Mac running 10.11.1, downloaded DJI Assistant 2 v1.2.4 and the HoRNDIS add on software. shutdown restarted. Nada. I even tried the disk utility to see if I could get it to mount. Unfortunately I don't have a micro usb device to test the cable data feature. But I labeled it as data. And every time I plugged in the computer I got the red light showing the controller was charging.

The only thing left to do is see if I can reset the wifi network and downgrade the DJI GO app which may actually cause more problems trying to connect to the controller.

Ok, I was able to reset the WiFi downlink. I can’t tell if that worked because the problem can be intermittent. And it’s 150* here and not conducive to being outside period.
So I just wanted to ask you guys some advice. Should I downgrade the app to 3.0.1. Grok says it is compatible with drone firmware 1.9.6. I’m running 1.9.2.

This should cure the “obtaining IP address” problem but wont do anything for the video loss and freezing. I’ll hold off on changing out that ribbon again for now. That will my full attention.

Firmware updates/downgrades should be avoided if possible, and only done if no other options are available.

The final firmware version for the DJI Phantom 3 Standard was 1.09.2

Firmware version 1.09.6 was for the Phantom 3 Advanced and Pro only....not the Standard.

I wont try to change the firmware on the drone but i thought it would be ok to downgrade the app on the phone. That shouldnt brick the drone? I have no way to check the version on the controller.

Sounds like you’ve been through a lot with that P3. From what you’re saying, the firmware update might be causing more trouble than it’s worth, especially with your setup. Downgrading firmware on DJI drones can be tricky and sometimes risky, but it’s possible if you find the right older version and follow instructions carefully. Just make sure to backup everything before trying.

Well thank you everybody. Looks like I solved the “obtaining IP address” problem by resetting the WiFi downlink. It has been consistently connecting the Phantom network very quickly.
I still lose the video transmission but it’s livable. I still want to keep flying to build up my confidence before I should get a new drone. Sometimes I get a gimbal overload warning but there is nothing obstructing it. It seems like I always need to calibrate the gimbal for every flight because the camera is cockeyed. Sometimes that fixes it sometimes not.

I went out to fly last night because it was nice and cool. The lights on the drone are great. It’s too bad they don’t have that on the newer drones. They just have a little led on the belly. And it seems they have no landing gear or prop guards either.

Good to here you got it sorted out. As for lights for other model drones, there are quite a few aftermarket manufacturers that make lights and custom mounts for other drone models. Just depends on how wild you wanna' go. 👍👍
