Video recording length

If my memory serves, digital cameras used to have their video recording lengths or file sizes limited. Not sure if that is still a universal case.
It was for tax purposes I think, to stop them being categorised as video cameras.....as I said memory hazy and if a wise old owl remembers better please correct me, but there was certainly a legal loophole involved.

I knew my memory still had working bits. A couple of links, one about video recording time and another about the 4gb limit (in the answers bit). Yes i realise it is about dslrs but originally the restrictions date back to earlier compacts with video capabilities which pre-dated slrs having video by many years.
