I know this has been gone through in past years, but here's a revival of the question:
I was planning to use my phone as a hotspot, so as to provide maps to my tablet and app. Of course this is a wifi connection. Bad idea? No big deal? A better way? I have read that one can cache maps on the tablet simply by going to the area beforehand, but frankly I do not want to trust that the maps will be there when I am out in the field.
