Started my 3 pro without screws securing the motors (yeah I know…but it was a mistake). The motors spun and stopped and after opening up the case to inspect and not finding any damage to wires I am getting an esc error and the unit won’t start the motors. The drone is very rarely used so it would be a real waste to not fix it if it makes sense. Any referrals for local shops? I’m in the pasadena, CA area. Thanks

Welcome to the forum?

Most important to me same as others, why was there no screws holding the motors?
What has happened since the last time it worked fine?

Running the motors without screws shouldn't hurt anything unless props installed. If props were on, the wires probably twisted until something broke even if not visible. ESC warning indicates it. If feeling competent, might use an ohm meter to find the break or run power to each individual motor to locate the culprit.

Well, that makes me feel optimistic. Yes props were installed and the wires twisted. I’m hoping I didn’t damage something as the wires connect to a motor. Would you mind giving me directions on how to do that? I have a multimeter and solder gun turn

I removed the screws to eliminate the blade guard mounts, got called away for business and a day later forgot I didn’t install. Dumb move but I admit it happened.

So it was fine before that?
Do you know if the ESC, error is all 4 motors?

What if ESC error came up because there was no props on them?

You started it up, the motors are spinning, but with no friction, not enough current draw?

You do know about the longer screws on P3* that is needed for the prop guards?

Many people forget, they take the guards of, put the same screws in, not always do the screws screw up the motor, they tightened motor later, etc.

Agree, most likely cause.. if the same long screws were reused with prop guards off, motors get jammed. Hope you still have the original short screws, if lucky you might save the motors. If the windings got damaged, new motors required.

I did install one screw and see that it was bumping into the motor so I backed it out. Fortunately, I did not crank it. That’s when I forgot to put in my replacement screws because I was going to go looking for a shorter screws.

I started it up with the props on it, and it did start spinning all four, but then all hell broke loose, and the drone stopped. I don’t know if it’s one motor or all of them at this moment I can’t get it to do anything other than the ESC when I try to get motors spinning.

I only tried to assemble with a single long screw and recognized it was too long. I reassembled with the guard mounts again so it should be limited to a single motor. But do I need to wire a replacement motor to know for sure?

What concerns me is that in some videos on YouTube when a motor is bad the others still spin when the drone is started up and mine don’t do anything.

Have read through this thread on damaged wire , could be what your dealing with

It's bad when ya cant edit my own post above =$#@€¥£₩,,anyway above thread unless your 100% sure your screw damage windings otherwise investigate that pinched wire you got

As chewed up as those wires are, if it were me, I'd change out the entire motor assembly (which includes wiring). And check the other 3 motors for screw damage, or any other defects.

The ESC error prevents the drone from starting in the event one or more motors is compromised.
