I'm not an antenna guru or a radio operator, but I got to say guys, I read this thread start to finish and it's the most interesting thing I've read on this forum in a while ! Can't wait to follow it along.

Hi PC had a question about helicals..i always see the spacing to be a 1/4 wavelength. ..if you reduce this to say 1/8 or 1/16 would this increase strength and would impedance change?

Can you elaborate on you ground station??
That is kick ***.

What I am looking for is a replacement for the stock "co-linear folded dipole" antenna that were removed when the remote was modded for times when a bigger antenna is not required.
Any suggestions on what search terms I can Google with?
The antennas with a RP-SMA connector I have found so far are typical omni-directional or those with the big plastic rectangle. Examples:
2.4GHz 6dBi Indoor Omni-directional Antenna
2.4GHz/5GHz 10dBi high gain directional indoor panel antenna
After modding the RC controller , when you have taken off the paddle antennas , you can get all type of antenna to fit on there.
in general use the ItElite fits the bill ad its light and linear .
