What is the exact advantage of having a display device that can be get GPS? Do I understand that it's because then the Maps off Google (or wherever) will update as you fly? Do the Maps really change that much that you need instant updates? I could use my iPhone 7, which has GPS, Or my iPad mini2, which is just Wi-Fi, and outside, obviously, doesn't connect to any network. So what's the answer here?

What does my iPhone do with GPS that my iPad does not do when I fly?

You can use the Follow Me feature and manually reset the home point to your mobile device's current location after taking off.

Ahh....ok, anything else?..........

The reason I ask is I see a lot of people here trying to decide on their display devices, and they are being told, perhaps rightfully so, they should get the iPad w/gps mini or air.. I wasn't sure what they got for that. How about the map question above does it update maps?

No.

Does this solve the "taking off from a boat" problem?
I think constantly having to manually reset the home point is a problem in itself. Either take off from land or set the Phantom to hover if the RC signal is lost.
