RTH

for less skilled pilots it's always better just to sit and wait
I believe that professionals get only one type of RTH - when they lost connection (big distance or something gets in the way) - and then it's the same :D - sit and wait (except the fact that as soon as they get connection back they can afford to cancel RTH and to continue with flight)

You can cancel it at any time after signal is recovered and continue flying. If it loses signal again it will go into RTH mode again.

I get the impression that if RTH is initiated, the safest thing to do is allow it to finish.
If you don't want the drone to come all the way back, there's no need to let it return.
And if you were dealing with a tricky headwind RTH, you can fly faster than RTH will so it would definitely be advisable to resume control and bring the bird home rather than letting it burn battery without making progress or even be blow backwards.
