Went out today took off and flew a few meters out hit rth and asked current or home location hit home and drone landed straight down an I doing some thing wrong

That's working as designed. Per the Phantom manual, the Phantom will auto land at its current location when it's within 65 feet (20 meters) of the home point.

Same thing happened with me
Hit RTH and it went straight down and it was 100m away

Check your GO app settings. The Failsafe action can be set by Owners to :

Hover in place
or
Auto-land where it is
or
RTH

........
