RTH: time between pressing button & action announced???

P4P+, bought 12/2016;
set to 327 ft ceiling & 327 ft distance;

for only 2nd time, I had "strong wind" emergency & resorted to RTH button; ? ? ?
I had gone to 327 ft distance & then saw distance continue to as much as 500+ ft;
after pressing RTH, I immediately lowered height to ~200 ft or less & also
tried manually bringing drone closer to take-off area;
it seemed like it took 15+ sec from time I pressed RTH to hearing
"Return to Home" activation announcement; (which was successful)
in fact, how long after pressing RTH button does RTH action commence? ? ? ?
do manual actions immediately after pressing RTH button delay RTH announcement?

We abuse the RTH function and it takes about 3 seconds from the press and release to activate it.

We use the Phantom Pro + controller , but 15 seconds means there is a problem with your signal, how far away are you when you are initiating it ?

How long is is from the time you release the RTH button before the drone engages it , not announces it ?

announcing RTH & engaging RTH.
I ASSumed they were simultaneous...
Is there a screen message 15 secs
before voice announcement???

The best way to answer your queries would be to go to a nice open area and do some testing with the drone 60+ feet away and you can find out what's going on instead of wondering.

After pressing RTH the Phantom will hoover in place for a few seconds before it starts RTH.

In strong wind choosing RTH is not the best solution if the RTH path is against the wind. I would do that only if I am not sure where the craft is.
In RTH the craft moves slower as it uses less motor power to preserve the battery. In strong wind RTH may cause a trouble.

I trust authoritative answers more than my novice testing.
But it wouldn't hurt.

I'm thinking that the reception of the command signal and the true beginning of the RTH process starts before the voice is announced.
