i am concerned here in EU about the fast gain of public negativity over the use of drones.
there is already a new legislation proposed in Greece that forces all drone owners to registered our drones and get a special number for them as well as paying application fees for such registration!(even under 2 kgs)
Also there is compulsory insurance ( that is good though)
so i predict that it is a matter of time before various Government legislations will force the drone manufacturers to issue firmware updates that will limit the capabilities of the drones ,such as Altitude ,range ,payload as well as speed in the name of terrorist prevention as well as public protection. They are just to intelligent at the moment with to much range and auto-flight capabilities that can pose a serious risk in so many ways..
If i remember correctly with iphones and firmware upgrades it was almost impossible some times to downgrade the fw of certain hardware on it ,thus you could not jailbreak the locked carrier.
so what if the next drone firmware down the line was locking the flying hardware within a specific performance envelope that was in line with safety legislation to come? And then it might not be possible to downgrade the drones back to old fw again?
just a thought ....
