P4A Landing gear replacement

I'm fishing for some advice here. One of my landing struts is cracked, but still quite servicable. The damage is limited to the area immediately around the 2 attaching screws. Do you think it's worth the trouble to replace the landing gear? Second question - if I DO replace the landing gear should I split the case, or attempt to remove and reinstall the connections right at the base of the strut. Not to sound rude, but I'm not interested in speculation, please answer only if you've done this. Thanks much in advance!
