Flying a p4p... I have 3 batteries I rotate and come spring I have a fourth that will be needed in the mix. Knowing that, I threw it in with some other items to get a free interest deal. My question is there any smart battery reason to start using it or can it stay stashed until spring...

As long as it charges and you maintain the 30% to 60% charge, it should be fine. I would fully charge it first and check the cell values, then if all looks good, let it discharge itself. But keep an eye on it at least once every 3 weeks or so so that it maintains that 30% to 60%. Approximately.

I would put the battery into service now and rotate with the other 3- you will get longer service life on all four that way. Whenever I get a new pack I make it number one so it gets flown first. I track the usable mah, balance on all so I know my strongest pack and can favour it for the longer/riskier flights.

You might as well get the use out of it while it is new and fresh.

Btw- I have phantom 3 packs that are 2+ years old that still fly almost like new ones.
