NEW JERSEY FLYING

I live in central n.j. I don't seem to be able to get any great distance. My average is about 2500ft.
I have try windsurf,Itelite ,other controllers with out spending a lot of money I seem to get the same distance!!
Just wondering if anyone else is having the same experience living here or in a suburbia environment??
