The new P4 manual has this to say about the camera sensor:

Anyone know if this is true?

I wouldn't give too much weight to what the leaked manual says. Until DJI posts it, it is not official.
 
Thank you for the detailed information msinger. Although I'm not looking to purchase a P4 I find the details informative. I'm quite satisfied with my P3As but if they came out with one that would measure current AGL I would find that useful, especially where I live. A product like that I would jump on. Thanks again for all your work on this forum as you are the staple of it.

What exactly is meant when they say that the p4 is 5x more stable? What are they referring to by stability here?
 
They are referring to stability while hovering.
 
Right. Ideally, your Phantom should not move at all while hovering in the air. That's not a possibility though given that it's a flying machine. So, the closer it is to not moving while hovering, the more stable it will be perceived to be.
 
Question - it says RTH always landed within a few inches of takeoff. So is this with VPS on? Was thinking if it is that accurate it might take a picture(s) and then reference that to land?? No idea but it must capture a picture someplace/time to be able to do that. Unless it was just a coincidence. Anybody know?
 
None of my Phantoms have ever been that precise in their RTH positioning & usually come back to within a 3-10' radius of the take off point. I never let it auto-land & land myself tweaking the touch down spot. I doubt the P4 takes an actual photo for reference because at the moment the Home Point is set it's on the ground & the VPS cameras are probably too close to the ground for a useful reference image.

Pictures of static objects such as buildings, trees etc can be taken but it would be too risky to take a pic of the home point and try to match graphics before landings as objects at the home point might move and will have fly away situation :).
 
I just find it rather strange that it can be that accurate landing RTH and was questioning how it is done. Could be that the reporting was not correct but they said it was numerous times. And when you read about how accurate it is in hoovering I thought "well maybe." Guess we will find out soon enough if this is really the case.

What is "normal flight mode" and can gps and vps be enabled and still able to reach speeds of 35mph in "normal flight mode"? I know OA would have to be disabled as it says it only works up to 22mph. I hope these are not dumb ?s I am new to the Phantom life and plan on filming with friends that run P3 just hoping to be able to keep up without being in "sport mode" Thanks for all the great info!
 
GPS & VPS can be enabled at any speed but collision avoidance enabled limits speed to 22 mph. With only a ~50' CA range the speed has to be limited to give it time to react. We'll find out soon when the app releases. I'm going to Tap Fly mine straight into the side of the house but be standing there to snatch it if need be! :eek:
