Maxx VS Terminator. Long distance antenna shootout!

Whether they use those panels and then go inside and make some configurations/changes or start from scratch I don't know, either way horizon states that the Terminator antenna is fine-tuned and you will not receive this type of signal simply by placing (2)Chinese 14 dB panels side-by-side. So maybe there was a rework! Either way I didn't think Will would just package up a Chinese panel and send it out! The terminator is an amazing panel possibly better than the maxxrange, but that is still for you guys to decide
Db have you looked in side your set? Maybe post some pictures and when I get my set ( clone & knock off) I'll do the same and we can compare.
The parts are there it Horizon tuning them compared to Chinese Mass production. As Most of us know there is very little QC with the Chinese product ( well the cheap stuff)

I flew the same flight path w/ the terminator unboosted ,(post #166)I believe at your request SK to see how these antennas worked over urban areas, and with the terminator I took off from a lower home point. So they both excelled flying over homes and through downtown areas At low altittudes. Right before I flew this 9.3 mile run, I flew the same flight path with the max range unboosted also flying low, because I was fooling around just to check the wind my aim wasn't as true, so I had some dips in the bars every now and again once I was out 36,000 (but I was flying around taking pictures that far out unboosted) both are very capable antennas!

Do you use the 32 channel hack and if so, what channel do you choose?

I might be willing to do that once you get yours, just for curiosity sake. The only problem is I have to remove that bar that holds them together because it's riveted on, only a matter of drilling out the rivets and replacing with pan screws. Let me know when you get yours

Ok, I thought you had to remove the rivets to get it to work with the cannon. Anyway I'll Let you know when I get them. I always what to know what made's things tick. Tinker at heart

I'm sure FPV Horizons had to fine tune these panels... The china ones are most likely just thrown together without proper tuning/spacing of the board and reflector. I know the distance has to just right for it to work for peak performance. I doubt the ebay panels will give the same results as the terminator. And if FPV did use the china joints then he had to put work in to get them to perform..that alone takes lots of time and testing. That's just my opinion on all this. For a few posts it seemed like pitch forks and torches were heading for FPV Horizons about this. The true test will still be for someone to test the 2....I'm waiting for that one

One guy had a bad flight experience. If the product is consistently cheaply finished in black, that's a concern. Personally I wouldn't choose the black version but it should be at least finished as best as possible.

I have a pair heading my way. I'm not wanting to bad mouth Horizons the hard part is the tuning ( taking the time) but having the part already made helps on their

I agree with the spray paint...i would have left them the grey and plugged/siliconed the holes to protect internals

Sounded like a rush job before the holiday. Anyway what holiday are they getting a week off for. I don't get a week off for July 4.

Yep, no pitchforks out! Were just kicking around thoughts, opinions, doubts, & successes like we always do here! Horizon has put together a game changing antenna here, i've only cracked the surface with what this antenna is capable of and youve seen all I've done with this so far! All in all this antenna is worth every penny and I wish I got a chance to buy it six months ago[emoji41]

I've been seriously looking into making antennas and some of the kit used for very precise antennas, oscilloscopes that cover the frequency we need can cost over £40,000 so I don't blame the higher price as long as they are consistent and do the distance ppl are getting. I say db and some others have proved this is the case.
To the paint job I'd go with white and get the old airbrush out and give it a proper personalised look

OK maybe it won't take that long I received a response to the question I asked, "is the terminator just panels bought from China manufacture together with a bracket and sold as a Horizon antenna"?
Well I won't give a direct quote because it was a private email but here is what was stated.
"The terminator is much more than that the terminator is built and derived up to Wi-Fi panels that are reconstructed internally and fine-tuned to produce the signal strength that is achieved and put into a nice easy to use package. Although the price of this is more expensive than buying two cheap panels, as demand in sales for the terminator go up the price will come down. If you were to buy the cheap panels you would not be able to reproduce even close to the distance that the terminator will produce. And regarding the holes in the bottom of the panel both will not be in future models those will only be noticed in early Prototypes."
So I take from that, that the terminator is more than just cheap Chinese panels it's actually had to be rebuilt and fine-tuned

I call BS!! Open one up !! Guaranteed they have just drilled the hole if need be to feed the sma connector through, removed the cable and soldered the new cable to the board!

My two $14 antennas are ordered, when I have some time I'm going to pull them apart and make my own "terminator" panels for $40 total and an hour of my time.

Don't get me wrong I'm not insulting the results, just the story they are telling.

Why bother taking them apart. Just glue them like the Horizon did and give it a fancy name. Thats obviously why its spray painted black to cover over the Chinese company name

Post your picture when you have it apart I'm sure by then one of us will have taken the terminator panel backplate off &posted pictures

I'm eagerly awaiting your results and some pics would definitely be appreciated.
All I know is that their is not much to these antennas
sma - reflector(ground) - dielectric material - patches and microstrip lines all of which need to be precise for best results, no problem. The bit I struggle with is knowing for sure how precise you are or if you could make it better without the ridiculously expensive testing equipment.
Trial and error over a long time due to all variations in signal abnormalities ;)
Or one off payment for a potentially great and tested antenna hmmm, me personally I'm gonna do both:rolleyes:

Now that's funny, like SK無人機 :)

Lol I've seen a crazy 29 dBi patch but I think the size is 550mm x 1000mm approx more permanent house fixture I'm thinking :)
