Just Lost My 1 Week old P4P Help Please

What I don't understand is technically you can fly the drone without any app correct I could start it up and fly it without being connected to my phone

You could, but you'd have no local flight records - which is especially bad for warranty purposes if you don't physically have the drone.

Well to add insult to injury my 7 day old DJI Refresh warranty has been voided...and DJI hopes I understand!!! WTF...So I'm out $1500 bird, and $150 warranty in a week. I will definitely dispute DJI Refresh payment..this is crazy. Who knew Litchi was the devil. Surely there is nothing in Litchi to take this bird down, this is simply DJI wiggling out. So if I go find the bird now my Refesh is void too.

They just dont want to cough up simple i protest and not fly all day , sorry your bird but this rips my undies

That line in the policy doesn't state the warranty is void if you use a 3rd party app, only that warranty service will not be provided if the damage was caused by a reliability or comparability issue with a third party part.

IANAL, but I don't see anything to indicate that simply using a 3rd party app would automatically void the warranty. Don't accept their answer, keep at it.

Well lesson learned on many fronts! Thanks again everyone for the support. I happen to be in a position that this loss is not shattering for me, I feel for folks though that losing their bird is devastating and they get treated like this. I've spent a lot of money with this company with no claims going back to P3 and multiple P4 and P4P/s...

Well technically the Refresh is attached to that bird..and the bird is gone so it doesn't matter but I'd never get another refresh if filing a claim would be void because I use Litchi. I love the Litchi VR. It's the only way I fly. Tried DJI Goggles and didn't like them..and DJI will never give us a VR mode as Litchi has because they want to sell Goggles...

Tell you what, the fact they won't refund a Refresh warranty that is 7 days old and can never be used gets my goat more then the non warranty repair. Already disputed charge. I believe with "extended warranties" as such there is a certain period where you can cancel and get refund after purchase.

I think the key wording is "damage caused" Finding that bird is key! Because it will have the data to determine exactly what caused the failure. In any case if they can still find an issue that Litchi did in fact cause the issue you would want to know that. Just because you was using Litchi cannot void the warranty...only if "damage caused"

Refurb bird is only $800. That's what you get from DJI anyway on a warranty claim. Then figure you've got a extra controller, battery and two sets of props.. seems cheaper than insurance.

As others have already suggested, you need to find the drone to progress your claim. Litchi is an authorised third party app as confirmed by an email sent me by them when I had issues with pano mode some time ago. Certain that I have read a number of posts from the moderators here and from memory the guru msinger as well that Litchi data on its own won't support any warranty claim. You need to find the drone and push your case. I would strip naked with a knife in my mouth and wade through the area until I found it. I despise being ripped off.

My two cents. An interesting question, "does installing a third party software void a hardware warranty if the product fails?" The short answer is "yes". There are multiple cases of hardware warranty being denied after installation of third party software. This includes cases involving Apple computers and rooted cell phones.

The long answer is whether you can prove the third party software caused the problem.

As has been stated, without the drone that is near impossible to prove.

It would be worth stating in a clear and unambiguous notation on the DJI refresh site, that installation of the Litchi software will void the warranty.

At this point, it might be worth an attempt to file a complaint with the State Attorney General, consumer affairs. The complaint occurs where the sale occurred, which would be your state.

It is an online form. I have done it for a number of issues concerning warranty coverage and product failures. You would be amazed at how quickly a firm will respond and often "pay up" when the state attorney writes a letter.

There is no down side, it costs nothing. It is your tax dollars at work. Remember, the state attorney is paid by you and works for you.

Just my thoughts.

So in other words, if you plan on taking off with the litchi app even a single time you might as well save the refresh care dollars. I didn't buy refresh care anyway. Crap policy.

Installing 3rd party software does not void your warranty.
If you can prove that it was a DJI issue that was the problem, you can still get warranty.
The issue is that without the crashed drone's flight data recorder, it's going to be hard to prove what caused the incident.

Why is she voiding my REFRESH warranty then. Even if I find bird I can't get replaced under refresh...they voided the warranty...7 days into it. She wrote back sorry I'm upset but these are their policies.

As for trying to retrieve, without Marco Polo I'm working blind. Also the construction site seems to be closed down, for how long I don't know...so that means breaching two fences, the following mat will show the obstacle course. If anyone here wants to come take a stab I'd pay $250 or more for recovery but for me I can't do it.
