IPAD2 OK?

I just got an IPAD2 from my daughters for my birthday...will this work OK for when I purchase my P3P?
( Im trying to teach myself more about tablet/device side of all this)

The iPad 2 was discontinued a couple of years ago. Are you sure you didn't get an iPad Mini 2 for your birthday?

Yeah... I have to find out more information without offending my daughters ( they didn't get it for me with flying in mind)

Its definitely an ipad2 2nd generation. New in the box.
Is it because its only a WIFI device? Makes sense I guess... I was hooping to use it for flying the P3
My wife said I probably would have to purchase a data plan to use it without wifi.

My regular phone is an Iphone6 plus..but small screen...
