I keep reading about imu calibrating. What is the IMU and what does it do. I have a new P3 and am wondering how do I know if it needs to be calibrated. Also if it is needed them how do I perform the calibration? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

He says after every 10 flights or so??? Is that necessary? I do them after firmware upgrades but not every ten flights.

Thank you. Am I correct in assuming that I need to prepare a surface that is non-metallic and perfectly level? Any recommendations on this?
